I doubt he was scared of Diaconu. Diaconu's really not all that good, although he could trouble Dawson stylistically somewhat. He was clearly scared of the situation, and of leaving his comfort zone.

But you criticised Kessler for staying in his Copenhagen comfort zone, when it is clear that that is far from true. Kessler has shown a willingness to push himself and take on the big fights, even to fighting in the backyard of proven champions. Which is admirable.

Kessler has pushed himself and come up short.

Dawson has pushed himself and come up big.

    That is the difference.

Please tell me you don't think taking on a 40 year old Tarver inside your own comfort zone, two years after Tarver got clowned by Bernard Hopkins is an equivalent challenge to going to Cardiff to fight P4P top three Calzaghe, slightly past the peak of his powers, in front of a 65000 home crowd?

In terms of accomplishment, Dawson beating Tarver is slightly more impressive than Kessler beating a 35 year old Bayer. Slightly.

It would be a good interesting fight to be honest... that is until Dawson finds himself in the ring with someone who can nullify his best assets and would take him to school on experience.

Lets be realistic here, if this fight happened Calzaghe would get little to no credit, as Dawson in unheard of and far from mainstream. Financially he brings absolutely nothing, so why not just wait a year, he'll be beaten sure enough in that time then you can throw out the next mans name. I like Dawson, he's certainly no Lacy of Pavlik, but while he may not be one dimensional he does lack a decent set of whiskers and he likes to take breaks mid round. Shame he cant crack an egg either.

I love the way these kids are made out to be complete fighters with all the intangibles. Lets see him face some half decent live competition himself first. I had Johnson winning btw.

I actually thought Pavlik would win a close win. I was pleasantly surprised, although for the record, I like Pavlik, am a fan of his, and think he will come back stronger and smarter if he can stay focused.

If Joe keeps on protecting his past achievements in his present behaviour, he's not going to give us the best fights whatsover. Chad Dawson would be a natural but the way Calzaghe is skipping it, possibly Dawson-Hopkins and either Hopkins retires into the realms of immortality or Dawson takes it from the three great LHWTs of the past in Johnson, Tarver and Hopkins and will be the next big thing, regardless.

Excuse me, but who the f*** is Marcus Bayer?

Was he ever a top 5 pound for pound fighter, like Tarver? How many world champions has he beaten? Is he not a tiny midget? And did he not calmly sit up at the count of 3, wait for the ref to count him out, then go and collect his paycheck?

    Good heavens. :patsch

    Indeed.

I do give Hopkins a chance against Dawson, but I'll give him a bigger chance in a Clazaghe rematch...it was a razor close fight after all.

Adamek would KO Calzaghe at say, 180 lbs.

I would love to see that fight. :yep

Dawson will fight Tarver again, first of all. Then, why not Hopkins? If Gary Shaw puts up the money and takes a big risk, Hopkins will fight him. If Calzaghe were to fight another fight after Jones, I'd rather see him take on Hopkins again, personally.

Thanks to Hopkins: Only Dawson left for Calzaghe

... but based on last Hopkins performance, Calzaghe's win was a fluke.

nope. joe will always be negated the respect he wants the same way pw wants his for his fight with margo. joe has unfinished business with B-hop. why should he be afraid of a 43 yr old man calling him out?:D
