I hate when people call it a "lucky punch". George had a strategy and he exectued it and it worked for him.
Agreed !!! If yu saw the fight ..Moorer was avoiding the right hand by circling right , hence George throws wide arced lefts ..with enough power to maneuver Moorer into the path of 'the train' ...so eventually the inevitable ...and so History was written
I remember that fight clearly. But in my mind, everytime I visualize that great KO punch connect to Moorer's face, it always comes with a funny "Three stooges" sound effect. KLANK!
Funnily enough, I've just read this chapter in Teddy Atlas' book. Says the strategy was to keep moving away from the right but Foreman threw a throw-away left hook to make Moorer move into that big right hand. He also mentions that he doesn't like people calling it a lucky punch as that was Foreman's strategy. Good read :good
Yes excellent, excellent book. Atlas doesn't make many friends but he knows his stuff. Great read indeed.
if you call taking a boxing lesson for ten rounds before landing a knockout punch a stragedy, then ****inhell you have problems. lolforeman talks out of his arse. it was luck, plain and simple. it wouldn't of took him ten rounds of getting his head punched around otherwise.
You wouldn't believe that he landed punches just like that on Tommy Morrison the entire fight but Tommy Boy just ate 'em. Says a lot about Morrison at his best:bbb.
sorry, i just find that funny to read when regarding tommy being at his best, but in the same sentence saying he was taking punches for the entire fight. you do know you're not supposed to be taking punches when you're good, don't you?
I never said Tommy was an ATG , he was a slugger with the best left hook in history...and no defense. I'm simply saying that he was extremely focused and motivated that night as it was one of his better performances.
It wasn't Foreman's plan for the fight to be hit as much as he was or as hard as he was at times, but he definitely went in there with a strategy. Look, when someone is looking to get lucky with one punch, what do they do? They go all out early early and try to hit the other guy when they still have all their energy and are still fresh. Watch the first round. Foreman threw almost nothing but the jabs. Why? I think because it's Foreman knew that Moorer would eb moving away from George, and that Goerge wouldn't be able to get to him at first. So George saved his strength, waited until Moorer slowed down/got complacent and felt safe in front of George, and kept trying to move Moorer into the direction of the big punch. The fact that it took until the 10th round to get the KO doesn't meant that the plan was for it not to happen until the 10th round, or to get hit so many times along the way.
