That, Mr Tony Bellew, was awful.

I'd agree with this. In his post fight interview Bellew seemed offended not to get any hometown advantage with the judges
End of the day he didn't land **** all in any of the 12 rounds and even though Chilemba took a while to get going he looked the more composed in there, looked the more skilful boxer and when he did start doing a bit he made Bellew look clueless. A draw is okay with me but there's a more of a case for Chilemba who boxed the **** out of him from round 6 on.

 

****ing awful fight, another ****ing awful main event from matchroom.

 

Can anyone even recall a shot from Bellew landing on the chin of Chilemba? I'm racking my brains and struggling to find anything of note he landed, he said in the post-fight press conference that he knew that Chilemba was weary of his power after tasting it early (when?) and also said that he felt like Chilemba was on his way to quitting after the fifth round had Bellew not "taken a round or 2 off"

Bellew would come flying in and miss with 3 or 4 shots badly and Chilemba would counter back with a couple of crisp counters snapping Bellew's head back and the commentary team were like

"That's what Bellew needs, he needs to pressure this guy because when he gets close Chilemba doesn't like it one little bit"

No mention for all the counters landed by Chilemba ? plus Chilemba staggered Bellew in the eleventh and Nick Halling said straight after "Chilemba just isn't doing enough is he Jim, not working!"

In all fairness chilemba was a good opponent

 

They can't exactly legislate for a boring fight.

If the fights good enough on paper then it's good enough for me regardless of what happens on the night.

Bellew is deluded. He has a problem getting a rematch, who would want to pay to see the rematch.

 

Couldn't disagree more. Bellew vs Chilemba was a true 50/50 (in the eyes of normal boxing fans, and Hearn) 90/10 Bellew in the eyes of scousers.

Most fights where the fighters are that evenly matched are stinkers because they're both worried about what the other can do.

 

When I saw Chilemba on you tube against,I think,a Russian,I thought neither of them was out of place in the top 10.Compared to other divisions,I don't think light heavy is full of talent.Whatever anybody says,they don't make the decisions,and last night was a draw.Bellew is still in the running.

 

Why is it that 3-107 journeymen are regarded as the backbone of the sport, while fringe world title contenders, and sometimes even champions, are regularly described as "****" for not being the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson?

 

Vlasov I think would have been that fight.

I hope Tony watches that fight back and realises that he never won even close to 9 rounds (shocked that he actually said he did) and that he turned off for 5 or 6 rounds effectively giving Chilemba a chance to win rounds without needing to try.

The Sky commentary seemed almost as bad as Teddy Atlas screaming robbery, what is it with commentators needing to make everything sound controversial? Fans aren't idiots we can see when one man is missing and being tagged in return.

Also a shame that Bellew seemed disgusted by the fact he didn't get the win at home, it's the second time he's been at home an not won, he probably needs to realise that being at home doesn't give you an extra round or two on the cards especially not with neutral judges. Get rid of the "I'm at home, I should win" mentality, it's a major issue with boxing and needs doing away with.

I see ya point but end of the day if bellew is as good as people say he is, he should be beating someone like chilemba convincingly. Even he just boxed him to a wide decision it would have been fine. But swinging at chilemba like a madman and missing him by a country mile was not a good look. Also his conduct during and after the fight was poor.

 

Just see him on sky sports news Bellew said after watching the fight back he thought he won 7 rounds and gave chilemba 5.
