No, the ref was right. I saw the cuts after the fight they were bad

 

The Ref's MOST IMPORTANT job is the safety of the fighters, the doctor can give advice - but the buck stops with the ref.

If he feels a fighter could be put in danger by allowing him to fight - he has a perogative to stop the fight

 

Only the referee can stop the fight and he doesn't need the doctor's approval. He can ask his opinion and the doctor can tell his opinion to the ref, which in most cases good enough to convince the ref, but it's still his decision, and if he can judge it by himself, he can stop at any point.

Since the Abraham-Miranda scandal in Germany of course, I think the officials are looking much more after the fighter's safety, and Chagaev's cut was terrible.

the ref seems to want to stop that fight pretty bad! but it was a really bad cut and it could change de fight so i guess is a good call!! but i want a rematch because it was an intersting match-up.

 

LOL the funniest thing i've ever seen was the Brewster fight where the Ref counted to 9 and I believe he stopped and tried to help the boxer up. That was funny. Oh I forgot the one where Williams knocked the other guy down and there was like 1:30 secs left but the Ref just stopped the fight for a break time. Isn't that something, there's like 1:30 secs left in the round and one guy is hurt so the ref just say break time lol.

 

The doctor was interviewed by ZDF after the fight and said the referee was right to stop the fight because the cut had deepened by the sixth round.

 

Maybe the ref bet on the 'under' 6 1/2 rounds.

The cut may have not been dangerous enough to call for an immediate halt from a doctors perspective; however,
the cut was bleeding profusely and was becoming progressively worse.
If the referee believes that the bleeding was causing a serious vision obstruction, whereas, the safety of one of the participants is comprised, then he has an obligation to stop the fight which he did.
Failure to do so would have been negligent.

 

If I remember it right the manager of Williams' opponent, who was sitting in the first row, stood up from his chair at 1:30 and rang the bell himself. Or he just stood up to say that someone should do it. Have to rewatch it, that was ridiculous.

 

That is just your perception.
The referee acted correctly and diligently and stopped the fight.
If he thinks that the cut comprised Chagaev's safety, that was the decision to make.
And that is why he was the referee and not you.

After the the doc looked at it and let Chagaev continue the first time, it was clear that the injury would stop the fight eventually. Drummond realized that he would loose by scorecard the next couple of rounds because he was behind and immidiatly set out to KO Chagaev ASAP. The only realistic way to win the fight with the rules given. Unfortunatly the cuts very near and above Chagaevs left eye were serious and he could have lost a good chunck of flesh if the hadn't been stopped.
