Roy should have retired after Ruiz. His reflexes left him long ago and that was his greatest gift.Since he has been hittable, it has been obvious ,he does not take a punch well. And these horrific knockout loss's will soon send him to dementia if he does not retire now!!! Remember your friend Gerald McClellen. , another tragic story and forgotten man.Do not end up the same way . Retire for yourself and family.
Not much any boxing commission can do to stop his fight if he passes their physical test. The only way he stop fighting is if people stop paying for his fights or he comes to the realization that he is finished. I hope he realized it last night that his fight days are over. I also think there will now be very few people willing to pay for a RJJ fight.
He shouldn't be sanctioned anymore or Echols and maybe Miranda too. At least Holyfield is facing other old farts but if he faces the kind of young guys Roy does he will need to quit for his health. It would sadden me to see Roy & Evander needing captions for use to understand what they're saying as I grew up hearing about these two legends. NOt just great fighters but no fighter should be sanctioned if they've been through what Echols, Enzo,Ali,etc. have been through. They're old enough to call it quits and are highly risking brain damage. I hope Roy is done with boxing in the ring and sticks to commentating if possible. I'm hopeful that HBO could give him a big enough check. Not to sound all emotional but as a fan I couldn't bring myself to watch even parts of the Lebedev fight after learning the results of it despite Roy showing a small percentage of his former self as I'm a big Roy fan.
I think he indicated after the fight that he envisages fighting again. I'm not sure why he does it though. Sure, he has a large tax bill for a few million dollars, but he received this bill just after the Calzaghe fight. I find it difficult to beleive a) that he has squandered everything he ever earned before the Calzaghe fight; and (b) that he was then able to spend everything earned on the Calzaghe fight in such a short space of time.
fighting again ? He must have been sleep walking ..God no please no ..I don't think he he spent all that money from the Calzaghe fight but he should really stop !
I'm beginning to believe that Roy is incapable of making sound decisions....period. It seems the greats that hang on too long all lose the ability to make the tough decisions in life. Maybe its a symptom of the damage they have received. That fight with Lebedev should have never taken place and Roy should have realized he was washed up when he barely beat Tarver in their first fight. Fact is he gave up on the sport years before that. His commitment died way before his speed and reflexes went.
That was a terrible KO of Roy Jones. He definitely cannot keep fighting now after that result. It seems he has unfinished business but I cannot see what agenda he thinks he has after that bout. Roy has nothing to prove in fighting, as an aging man his style is wide open and not very compatible for fights with sharp young fighters and the KO of him last night causes plenty of worries as to how his head is taking all this punishment.
