We know that Khan appeared to be willing to continue but whether or not he was able is an open question. At the time of the stoppage, Kenny Bayless was the person in the best position to gauge if Khan could continue or not. He determined it was time to stop the fight and I agree with his decision. If you notice, Khan's corner didn't protest the stoppage. If it were a bad stoppage, I'd think that they would be the first to make some noise about it...
I agree. He should have let Khan take a few more licks...:yep He wasn't gonna do **** to Garcia at that point. Prob the reason Kenny stopped it, like "whats the use".
Khan was finished after the first knockdown and long count..... bayless gave him the champions chance and let it continue even after another knockdown! Khan never got his **** back together after that first KD and Garcia did an excellent job with not rushing the **** and punching himself out, he picked his shots and Khan would have gotten brutally knocked out if that **** continued. he took a horrible beating cause bayless gave him the champion benefit of the doubt but **** man that was brutal and he'll never fully recover. that was like Bute vs Froch all over again.
This.. Khan has huge heart, but Garcia was walking through his punches, landing bombs of his own. I didn't see any way for Khan to win after that, and was just taking unnecessary punishment. And as it's been said, I felt it could have been stopped earlier than that.
So you're saying fights don't get stopped when a ref is tired of watching a fighter take excessive amounts of punishment? So a ref doesn't or isn't suppose to ever stop a fight to save a fighter from further unnecessary abuse? Of save a fighter with a granite chin from himself, because he is taking a one-sided beating but wont go down? You and the rest of the Khan fans on here are just upset about the outcome, so you're looking for/creating anything to complain about. There was absolutely no controversy in last nights fight or outcome, and you guys are making yourselves look silly by carrying on with this clear malarkey.
I am a massive Khan fan, but he was right to stop the fight. He was on wobbly legs, and letting the fight go on was pointless. In fact as soon as he went down the first time i knew it was over. It was a good stoppage.
I only remember because I often agree with you on things. But in each case a point can be made for both sides. As for Khan, he didn't seem to clear to me. If you notice, he hesitated as Bayless motioned for him to come forward. I'll admit, he seemed in better shape than I thought he would be after all that, but I think after all the punishment he took, and the KD's, Bayless may have been looking for a reason to stop it, and found it.
fair stoppage. what would u have said if khan took another clean blow and had serious health issues. more to life than sport.
fair contrasting point. I'm not going to restate what i've already said. you have your opinion and I have mine. on another note, I often agree with you as well.
a shame, I would have called it a damn shame. what would you have said if khan managed to survive, only to come back and be competetive for the remainder of the bout? It's all hypothetical because the fight wasn't allowed to continue. at this point, it is what it is. I made this thread minutes after seeing the bout, and all I can do is look forward at this point, give major props to garcia for what is a strong case for upset of the year, and wait out khan's rebuilding process.
