But he failed from the beginning:

    Kellerman: "Bobby Fischer died tonight...."
    Lampley: "Actually, he died yesterday"

Kellerman is a total hack and his whole Fischer analogy was wack.

P.S. Both are incorrect. Since it was already Sunday, Fischer died two days ago.

I much prefer Merchant to Max, but to be fair, Max wasn't actually that bad tonight. Normally he annoys the hell out of me, but for this fight he was definitely better than usual with his input. The analogy was a little over the top though, and Lampley's expression in reaction to it was hilarious. Was radiating sheer 'what the **** are you on about?' vibes.

It WAS Merchantesque!! I was thinking the same damn thing. That "this is the kind of hairbrained post fight commentary that Larry would be cooking up." And you know what, it was pretty good! He's been learning at the feet of the master.

He tried to imitate the Master and did a pretty good job too.

Was he trying to said that even Fischer didn't take on Kasparov so Roy shouln't take on JC? Or is it Tito should have fought DLH instead of Roy Jones?

Bush league move by Lampley. He's never corrected Merchant, and in the grand scheme of the point Kellerman was making, it was irrelevant.

Lampley's a professional. He knows better.

Fischer and Kasparov were completely from different eras, so it's not really sensical for this to be an issue. Fischer and Spassky matched in 1972, whereas Kasparov only really broke in after taking the title from Karpov, in I believe 1985. There is a thirteen year disparity, and Fischer had been very inactive. I haven't seen the fight or heard what was said, but it sounds to be a bad analogy.

I personally believe anyone could see where Max was going with the Fisher-Kasparov analogy and the way he was tryin to provide food for thought for RJJ and concerning his plans of travelling to Wales whithout referring to Roy... Happens that Lampley will never forgive him for having disagreed with him concerning MMA issues last May on "The World Awaits" telecast - talkin about cheap shots and bitchy moves from the women aggressor on the young commentator.

It was very OBVIOUS that Max was totally biting Larry's style of commentary and deserved to get called out for it.
