Just got back from the fight, loads of the Yanks stormed out in the 11th in the huff. hahah Awww diddums
As I said in another thread (even backed up by others - for me a first as I usually talk one load of sh**e), this one was always going to end up in a big night in Cardiff. After that show - let's be honest, knockdown aside, it was pretty good! (I've not been his biggest fan; but great chin, style that the yanks will love and a punch rate that - at his age - is awesome!) However, it's who does he end it against? Drum roll for the only baddie out there... step forward - you know who... drrrrrr... B-Hop [Booooo hisss etc etc, oh, don't forget the $$$ and £££ signs.] But in my opinion, he's done it all and he can now sit back and say "f**k the lot of you, you asked me to fight the best and I wipped the lot of you; thank you and good night!" On a wee jingoistic point, not many chants of "USA" when Joe C got to work. Funny that... For that alone, he has my thanks. RJJ old and shot maybe, but define old and shot - he fought well and was dangerous. Joe C was simply too good; maybe our cousins across in the 51 nationalised corporte states of the peoples republic of America should recognise that hard fact. Cheers Joe, you did your country proud! (Bit of unashed brown nosing there folks and for me, i never thought I'd ever make such a post... it was that good!!!) :happy :happy
Sure he is. So is William Joppy for beating up Duran. So is Berbick for beating up Ali. Seriously get out of here with that crap. If you were old enough you wouldnt post such garbage. When Jones was in the top 10 P4P for the last decade and barely loosing a round in sight i presume you were way to young to remember. Jones is an ATG THAT my friend is a legend. Beating up a shot fighter is NOT. Joe is nothing more than an astute opportunist who put his pocket first way before his fans.
Lets be honest guys, it was a very good win for Calzaghe, but not great by any means, given the shotness of the opponent.
It was less impressive then Norris beating Leonard but on a similer level to Duran-Joppy or Camacho-Leonard.
How can we call it a good win? I spent yesterday watching many of Jones old performances and comparing his body to how he was up at heavy, when he was at 68 and 75 - and then compared that with his current build. Much like Chris Byrd he had no business whatsoever coming back down in weight from a muscular 200lbs. I cant believe no nutrionist disuaded him otherwise. He`s body at 68 in years gone by was filled out nicely. His face was full. The conditioning was all there. Currently at 75 he looks like a frail gaunt old man which can be seen by the shrunk skin on his cheek bones. The conditioning is totally gone, the muscle memory disappeared and his reflex`s badly eroded. This was a guy fighting on fumes and pride. Jones even got cut. Why? Because his skin was so thin and he was soooo dried out. Exactly the same happened to Byrd at the same age. Hopkins meanwhile went up in weight and added more longevity to his career as a result. Anyone with a shred of knowledge on physical conditioning knows its not practical in a sport like boxing to loose that amount of weight and still expect to perform. The body simply cant adjust. Joe himself said Jones was a shot fighter. There can be no credence whatsoever for Joe when we know what the diffrence would have been if that was a prime Jones. It wouldnt have been close. But then again when Jones was winning the heavyweight championship of the world Joe was busy racking up easy defences of the WBO, making nice money at home in Wales, and beating up the likes of Tocker Pudwill..
