You all know I'm not a Floyd fan. Or at least I wasn't. But I do not like Ortiz. He's everything a young fighter should not aspire to be or look up to. I had no respect for him going into the fight, and now he's down there with Cintron in my list of fighters who disgust me. Ortiz wanted to cut Floyd, plain and simple. Once there's video of the fight we can post it here and look at every time Ortiz tried to use his head. This isn't Andre Ward-style carelessness, this is intentional headbutting and there is a difference. You're fighting a guy who makes a living off his body functioning correctly and here you are trying to cut him up and endanger his future fights. That might as well be stealing food from his kids mouths (or Rolls Royces from their garage, but you get the point). That is nasty ****. Even worse than that is the whole apologizing scene. You fouled the guy, if it was an accident, sure, apologize. But Ortiz was going out of his way to make himself look like less of an ******* for what he did, and he was trying to buy time and goodwill from his opponent (like Mosley did against Pacquiao). Difference is that while most of us found Mosley's actions cringeworthy, he wasn't doing it after deliberately fouling/assaulting Pacquiao. Kissing the guy? What the hell is that?! He should have his licensed revoked just for being obviously gay in the ring. This is a boxing ring, not the goddamn love shack or something. But anyway. Cortez gave him a talking to and then said "Let's go!" motioning them to fight. Instead of walking in and tapping gloves, Ortiz does that and THEN goes in for some more hugs and love. At this point Floyd was like 'you know what, this is embarrassing let's go home early.' ***** slaps him and instead of waking up and being like oh yeah, I'm supposed to be fighting here, Ortiz looks at the ref like "Can you believe this ******* just punched me after what a sportsman I've been?" And then he became unconscious. Oh wait, he didn't. He went down and stayed down with a smile on his face, probably hoping for a DQ. He knew that at the end of the day, he was walking away with $2.5mil and an excuse for a rematch. He may have doubled his earnings with that quitjob. What if the roles were reversed and Floyd was the one cheating and making fake apologies, then got knocked out with a cheapshot from Ortiz? We'd be all over the place saying protect yourselves at all times, Floyd's a dirty fighter, look how VICIOUS Ortiz is, he's so hardcore and awesome. Fact is Floyd did us a favor and I hope to God that Ortiz never gets a payday anywhere near that size again. Put him in with Cintron. Revoke the license of the loser and make him go to MMA. Okay sorry for the tirade. Just wanted to make it clear that Floyd's the man and Ortiz is...not my favorite person. EDIT: Here's an interview with Robert Garcia. A very interesting interview which goes into the bad blood between Ortiz and Rios: http://fighthype.com/pages/content10772.html
I agree with you 100% Ortiz did something that could have done major damage. If I was Floyd I might Have clocked him when Ortiz was getting the point deducted and touched gloves on the way around or when Cortez originally stepped in to break them up. But instead he waited until the fight restarted after Ortiz apologized for a third time. The worse thing about it Ortiz knew how cheap and dangerous a shot it was after the fact and tried to cover it up with all that BS apologizing. Ortiz was getting schooled and got frustrated, this smaller man was not able to be bullied around the ring and he could not hit him flush. I liked Ortiz as he was moving up the ranks and I was on of the few supported him after his loss to Maidana. I was happy he found redemption with the Berto fight and got his big break against Money. I thought he had proven that he has heart but it was really the heart of a coward.
Ortiz is stupid. Not only was he apologizing when it was time to box, he also allowed floyd to hit him defenseless the second time around. This i think is the reason why people are thinking it was a fixed fight. No need for a rematch.

As soon as the fight ended I knew there would be an onslaught of opinions regarding the outcome of this fight. Well for whats its worth here are my thoughts. Was it a cheap shot ? Absolutely ! Was it legal ? Absolutely ! Should Mayweather have done what he did ? Well, I look at it this way - when you are in that squared circle your opponent is trying to take your head off as Ortiz was trying to do to Mayweather. If there was any sportmanship between both combatants then Ortiz certainly dispelled that notion with one of the more blatant and violent headbutts that I have seen in 25 years of watching professional boxing. We have seen Mayweather do this before with Gatti and Mosley. The man is a fighter first and foremost. Remember, Cortez did say "time in", which means lets go. Notwithstanding, Ortiz should have defended himself after the first left hook instead of looking at the referee for help. This was where his inexperience showed. The headbut looked like a sign of frustration from Ortiz and his flurries looked wild in my opinion. Mayweather fought like he always does - his composure is his greatest asset though. He sees most punches coming his way and the right hand is still razor sharp and accurate. But honestly - were we expecting a drama free Mayweather fight ?? Thats why I paid $60 - the man gives us something to watch. Gotta admit that those last two punches were a beauty to see whatever despite the circumstances in which they were delivered.
At the end of the day, I'm just glad both fighters are physically okay, (Mentally might be another story) when someone is not blocking and not ready for a punch like that they can get seriously hurt. Same goes for using your head, I've seen someone get knocked out because of a headbutt.
I am not a Mayweather fan. I think he's a POS as a person, but I appreciate the man's boxing skills. Ortiz has noone to blame but himself. I was starting to like Ortiz after the Berto fight, but after what he did in this fight he can go **** himself. At least overhyped Berto doesn't go headbutting people and then kissing them in his fights.
I just really can't believe Mayweather's getting the brunt of the bad stuff from this, he got ****ing headbutted because Ortiz couldn't hit him. He responded fairly, and time was in. He took advantage, it was great. Mayweather has annoyed the **** out of me this 24/7 and I'll gladly say he's a coward and a petulant money craving child, but I won't say that was his fault. I lost a lot of respect for Ortiz, that's all.
