Yeah he did. Which isn't too far off the mark, as I think Paulie's a solid B fighter. He's done well to make it as far as he has with pillows for fists, starting late, and mediocre fundamentals. Can't really overcome that without a good deal of natural talent, which Paulie does possess. The only real world class physical attributes he had were speed, chin, and heart.

It's impossible to be elite and P4P material if you don't have a certain minimum level of KO power. It doesn't matter if you are the slickest, most skilled boxer ever if you can't KO people you will not be p4p material.

Even guys like Mayweather, who are considered relatively feather-fisted have KO rates over 60%. A more feather-fisted fighter would be Bradley, yet even he has close to 50% KO rate, considerably greater than Paulie.

You need a minimum threshold of punch power to be elite, regardless of how good your skills are. Unfortunately, Paulie is below that threshold.

Mayweather is NOT feather-fisted in fact he was a puncher at 130, Whittaker wasn't much of a puncher but he was well schooled and slick. Paulie is flashy but he is NOT slick at all, he has poor defense and fundamentals and is surprisingly quite easy to find with big shots.

I've got to say, that anyone who has worked out in a boxing gym knows...or should know... that guys like Paulie, while they can't compete with top 10 world fighters, are WAY better than 99% of fighters lacing up gloves the world over.

There are guys in my gym WAY better than me, but maybe not the best in the city, state or region. So a guy who is golden gloves, or regional champ or alphabet belt would look like a prime RJJ if he was sparring me.

So, you have to keep it in perspective. A guy like Paulie is pretty damn good, he's just not a world champion level fighter.

If Paulie walked into your gym and you sparred him, he would probably beat your ass five ways to Sunday.

Master boxer or not he has a heart of a lion. Learn to give respect to a fighter who has been brave enough to take punches to the face and still keep going.
