And what does this statement have to do with anything? :huh Biting each other is more 'primal' than punching each other is. That's what primates did, after all. Would you find a fighter biting another to be more exciting and valid than a submission? No, because now we have arts and skills, like BJJ. Your point makes no sense whatsoever. It is very obviously borne out of a personal dislike for Anderson Silva, and to be quite honest you are embarrassing yourself with this ridiculously infantile thread. If you don't like a sport, don't watch it.
Yes, Anderson had a lot of heart. But I don't understand how anyone can think, unless they're a fan of silva, how that's a great way to win a fight after losing every second of every round. The fighter who fought the hardest, was toughest and performed better, should win the fight. But again, I realize this doesn't always happen in the UFC.
It's not like Sonnen was the victim of a bad decision. He was caught in a submission. He tapped out. He basically said "End the fight right now, I give up." So no matter what happened in the previous 23 minutes, ultimately he did not did not deserve to win the fight. He deserves accolades and credit for being the fighter who fought the hardest, was the toughest, and performed better for 4.5 rounds. Unfortunately for him, that's it.
So lucky I'm not a MOD because I'd ban you for sheer stupidity...go back to the General Boxing Forum...Say hi to HENDO for me...
I think you watched too man cave men movies. Boxing/punching actually goes back as far as anyone can research. My girl, who follows MMA somewhat but isn't a fan, was like "that's it? it ended like that?" and was let down, because it's not exciting. The majority of human beings want to see something that makes them go "holy ****" not "wtf was that?" Nodboy in a neutral state wants to see the better fighter who fought a better, tougher fight lose in that manner. And that's a fact, but not one I expect any Silva fans to comprehend after tonight.
It may not be visceral like a nasty KO but it was solid none the less. Close and/or controversial fights like these will almost always be followed by a rematch, you can be sure of it.
If a boxer get's KO'd, he obviously wasn't the toughest guy in the ring. BJ penn could submit Mike Tyson, and does that make BJ tougher? Ya, right.
It wouldn't be the same sport. It would go against the philosophy of the sport. It would be kickboxing with wrestling.
atsch It would make him the superior MMA technician, wouldn't it? Boxing isn't only about 'being the toughest' anyway you imbecile. Guys who were as tough as nails like Arturo Gatti lost many fights and some by stoppage, some to guys who could never match his sort of proven toughness. The toughest fighter I've ever seen is Wayne McCullough, but he has many losses, because he ran into better technicians. I'm off to bed now, I think you are a titanic idiot.
And MMA has lot's of punching in it. It's great. It's exciting. It also has a ground game, and exciting grappling and submissions often happen. Many MMA fans love this too, and certainly don't need to apologize for it. For us, it's not about punching vs submissions. They are both a part of the sport, and can be exciting in their own way. If you really hate the submission part of the sport that much, it's probably not the sport for you. Poll as many fans in a "neutral state" that you want about what they think about submissions in MMA, but I won't personally care what results are. I know why I enjoy MMA and I don't need someone else telling me that an opinion is a "fact". And I'm not a Silva fan in any great way. I predicted Sonnen to win, and was pulling for him.
