Loma didn't throw body shots, his corner was inexperienced, he didn't put in weight gain stipulation in the contract, and he didn't know how to deal with dirty tactics. And all the while, he was in a with a rough veteran, with a great chin, stamina, and vicious body shots. There is a lot to learn in this game. Now to watch Chavez beat the hell outta Vera... Well, actually it will be close, but Chavez will outbox him.
Dumb move by Loma's team by trying to fight a rugged vet like Salido this soon. He gave him a lesson in dirty boxing tonight the stuff they don't teach in the ams even with 400 fights. He couldn't fight on the inside held way too much and looked lost as to how to counter Salido's dirty tactis.
I agree he would've won this fight with a couple of fights experience. Oh well, overestimating yourself happens in boxing.
I agree. Now the question is, where does this kid go from here? I mean, you fight a champion, and now you go down and fight some bums? Mentally, this kid might be scarred.
Lomo got a lot to learn about that good boy ****. It's okay when you got a good boy in front of you, but when you got down and dirty pro using all the tricks of the trade, it's time to act accordingly. If he had a little more seasoning, he would had been wise enough to win the fight.
I think that body shot KO got everyone hypnotized about this kid. He came into this fight and didn't start throwing body shots until the 12th round. Even then, his father was telling him to jab and move, when he should have been telling him to make investments to the body throughout the fight. They got a lot to learn.
First he needs to get a real trainer. Second he needs to get right back into the ring with some soft touches hopefully with various styles and in a year fight someone in the top 10. No need to try and fight someone in the top 10 for his next fight a second loss that soon would really hurt his confidence.
He did too well as the fight wore on to resort to fighting bums. There's plenty to learn from tonight, and it's important to take on a quality opponent to implement the lessons. He doesn't need a top 10 fight immediately, but I think a solid top 20-25er is about right.
After seeing how inexperienced and inept his father was tonight, I agree. Maybe Freddy Roach would be a good shout considering Roach works with one of the best southpaws in the history of boxing. Is it too early to send him to Virgil Hunter?
Top 30 guys are fine needs a few of those and hopefully he'll run into a few dirty guys who he can better prepare for their tactics.
Roach would turn him into an offensive machine which would be good because he's a good athlete and has good footwork. I don't think Hunter would be a great fit but he's light years better than his father.
Laurence Cole should have been suspended for life long ago. He is the worst referee I have ever seen. As soon as they found out that Cole was the ref, they should have protested and gotten a different referee. Lomachenko would have won without all the illegal low blows. He has a great future, but you should never fight for a title in your second pro fight.............I would say he should fight a few pro fights, get a pro trainer, but keep his father in his corner also and he will become a champion..........
People acting like Salido is some great force that is nigh impossible to overcome, in my opinion, overrate him. There are at least 5 Featherweights I would pick to defeat Salido. And I'd be pretty confident in all of them: Jhonny, Mares, Donaire, Vetyetka, and Gradovich. I respect Salido as much as the next for his big wins over Juanma (first was huge) and the tough close battle with Gamboa. But he looked bad when he beat Weng Haya (that's a total guess on the name, almost) before the Juanma rematch. And he got beyond spanked/embarrassed by Mikey. Others who cite the Guerrero fight, which usually comes up quick in pro-Salido arguments, is in reality a complete negative. No result in any fight you test positive for any PED's in is ever positive... He'd still beat everyone at FW other than those 5 I named and some moving up from 122, with perhaps one or two more, so ultimately that is big praise for the 40+W 10+L professional. Who'd have guessed he'd have been this relevant back in 2008.
