Just seen this now on the scene. Well done, great career champ. You've been a credit to British boxing :good.
It's good that he's getting out now. Had some great nights and an unlucky decision in his first euro defence, but had heart and always showed the utmost respect to his opponents. Good luck to him.
Shame, I liked watching him and he was a top fella. Right decision though. He's got an interview in his local paper tomorrow saying what he's gonna do with the future etc which might be worth a read.
Had great wins against 'Scrap Iron' Ryan, Hollington, Melero etc. and gave Hatton one of his toughest tests. Great servant to the sport :good
John ''Jono'' Thaxton...What a Warrior and he is what epitomizes this sport and if all fighters had his heart then this sport we wouldn't be talking about the sad state of the sport. He can hold his head high and look back on a glittering career. I think it be hard to find someone that don't like this guy. I see tears in his eyes when he talks about the sport and when he talk about his fights...he loves it. I hope he stays in sport and is used as a ambassador. Class Act!!!
didn't he say on saturday? all the best to Jono, great servant to British boxing seems like we've been saying "best wishes" a lot lately, alotta fighters coming to the end
Thats sad news I liked Jono a lot:good Last weeks stoppage was disgusting, the referee's need to give experienced fighters a chance to recover and come back. Some of the best fights people have been on their way out and fought back from adversity. Thats what many great fighters have in them and overly safe refereeing is robbing them of their chance to show their strength/recuperation ability/ad******g gameplan when it's not working.
