Romanov was an easy pick. He won't beat Khan IMO but he has the style to make it incredibly hard for Khan. Romanov-Khan WILL NOT Happen. Khan-Thaxton may now happen based on that performance from Jon. Khan will stop Thaxton he would nick a close one Vs Yuri on points so long as he kept his beard out of the way but its too close to call and Warren won't take it. Romanov was quality but I was unsuprised as i've seen him fight many times and he always reminds me of a slightly untidy version of Barrera. His defence and foot work isn't as good as Barreras but his punch selection is practically identical and his handspeed is comparible. He's also got a good set of whiskers and Big Ears you may be right about the World title he looked like a fighter only a world champion could beat.
As you say mate, it was a pretty easy pick unless JT got lucky.:good He's had a great career I'd like to see him retire now. He's been looking shopworn for a while and this just confirms it IMHO.
It wasn't an easy pick, but it was an easy win because Thaxton fought the worst he has for 10 years. Thaxton used to be a tough guy with power who loaded up looking for the ko all the time. But since he's been fighting at lightweight he'd turned into a real nice boxer that wouldv'e given Romanov trouble all night because the guy is slow and one-paced. For some reason Thaxton came out from the first moment throwing bombs and leaving himself open to any shot, his corner didn't have a clue what he was doing. I thought he'd found his brain, but he left it at home last night. atsch
Thaxton was out of his league and knew it from the opening seconds. He had no hope of outboxing the faster and more technically gifted Romanov so he gambled on the one thing that could of brought him victory- his punch. Had Thaxton tried to outbox Romanov from range he would have been picked to pieces and stopped in a more embarassing fasion. Its very rare I pick a fight to end by KO but from the moment this match was made it was claer to me that Thaxton (a real gent and a good domestic fighter) was not going to cut it at this level. Just admit that you were wrong Sleaze people will respect you more.
For all my critism of his utterly **** career handling and conning of us hardcore boxing fans I am a strong believer that Khan has the capabilities to be a genuine world champion or at least a big 3 holder. Khans lack of confidence in his infighting would actually be his key to victory, he's faster on his feet than Yuri and can match his handspeed. He has a better workrate and is world class in his judgement of distance. Romanov- Khan would see Khan back to his amateur roots bouncing round the ring using his speed and timing to move in throw a decent combo and then move quicky back out again. Khan would have the last say on most of the exchanges and as high quality as Romanov is I don't see him as a great closer of distance more as an agrressive and quick counter puncher who takes little steps in and forces you to exchange with his handspeed and power proving key against lesser foes. Khan would be quick enough to let his go and maintain that distance meaning Yuri would always be just out of range. If Khan loses concentration for a second itr could all go pair but Romanov style is not the one that beats Khan unless he land a limmond style counter when Khan is not concentrating. Expect Khan-Romanov to mirror the St Clair fight in Khans approach though he may have to actually show some grit as Romanov will at some stage force him into a fight- but for me Khan will be too quick and take a UD 117-111 something like that.
Thanks, mate...it's a fair case. You think Khan would be mature enough to put it all together for 12 rounds, whilst keeping his concentration?:think :good
Thats the question isn't it? But I think so amateur boxing is about poise and concentration he should be better then most at keeping his head on the job.
I never said I wasn't wrong, and I was wrong about thinking Thaxton would box him. And if he had of boxed, Romanov would have had a lot of trouble. Because he's slow and one-paced, and any decent fighter who boxes him, will beat him.
Am I missing something here? Are there two lightweight Romanov's? There seems to be a really good one that I saw last night, and a rubbish one that some people here keep talking about.
No theres the really good one you saw last night and the slow one who can't punch that Bailey and Sleaze are using as a scapegoat for their lack of boxing knowledge.
