Jack Johnson, Langford and George all used that “Mummy” stance I have my own theories on the positives and such of it but I’d like to hear your opinions on its perceived advantages and disadvantages as well as other fighters whom have used it and quite possibly some reading material? On it, it seems to have its roots set in the caveman era of boxing.

Sandy Saddler is the definitive fighter of this style IMO. He had the perfect physical attributes and an underrated ring IQ to make it work.

Johnson is much more of a classical stylist than a 'Mummy'. He had the traditional L stance, and all the strategies and benefits that come with it.

Mummy methods can also work for stronger and / or shorter fighters. See Miguel Canto, who frequently outstretched his arms in an adapted manner, and basically every high level Thai fighter, particularly those with massive Muay Thai experience.

Its very useful for parrying and intercepting opponents' punches before they can hit you. You have to have a decent chin and strong arms otherwise the stance gets overwhelmed.
