All this talk of boxers keeping their 0 is ruining boxing. I may be wrong but dont remember any of this in the past. Hats off to mayweather, he is in a league of his own, and will probably retire with the 0 but imo he is spoiling the sport in the process. Sooo many times do we see a fighter 30-0 only to fight an average fighter and get exposed which leads to promoters picking below average opponents to enhance the 0. My question is..what do we do as fans to guarantee we get to see the fights we deserve and not the fight which offer best chance of retaining the 0.
Totally disagree. If you look at Golden Boy they gave the fans Garcia V Matthyse. They gave you Canelo V Mayweather. They gave you Broner V Maidana all in the last year. None of them matches were without risk. A fighter will eventually need to step up in level of competition this is just the way of the sport if they wish to be a star.
Exactly. The networks aren't going to allow these guys to continually fight stiffs(unless the ratings are good). In that case, it's kind of hard to blame the fighters or the promoters when the viewers are tuning in.
Yes 2013 was a great year for boxing. Could have been better but yeah great fights. Could you please explain then why wilder is still fighting scraps, brook has been mandatory for nearly 3yrs and still yet to fight for title, in fact in britain we have sooo many "unbeaten" fighters that we look good on paper only to be woken with a stark truth the minute we "have" to step up. Cleverley, bellew, price, barker, being the most recent. We still have fury, brook, burns, frampton, eubank jr etc. I find it hard to get excited by these fighters as again they havent fought anyone. Is it the end of the world to lose the 0????
No have to disagree what i think has to go is people writing off guys when they loose a fight, i mean fighters are sometimes afraid to fight top guys because loosing sets them back so far for some reason.
that is my point entirely. Why is it the end of the world to lose a fight?? It will happen to everyone except the best. We have to stop this nonsense that if you have been beaten before you are a spent force. Fukk the 0 and fight the best avail.
Wilder is in a tough position. His handlers didn't feel he was ready for the top level guys, and he hits too hard and brings in too little money to for the guys you would think he would be fighting at this time. Even still, Wilder is still an undercard fighter and rarely fights on TV. There is a lot of money and time invested in these fighters. You don't want to just throw them in there with guys you know they aren't ready for. Many of these handlers aren't neccesarily afraid of their guy losing, but rather they are afraid to have him being ruined by taking a fight they aren't equipped to handle.
cmon dude. Wilder is head and shoulders above the level hes fighting atm. He's ko'd everyone ffs. Rarely goes past 4 rds. He is more than ready for the contenders, we got 3 in uk that would be great match ups for both us and uk. Chisora, fury and price.
Apparently, he and his handlers believe that's the case now. Wilder stated that he wants to fight for the WBC title next. If he can't get that fight he wants Fury. If he can't get that fight, he wants Chisora. However, the point remains the same; in the past they were focused on developing Wilder. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes in boxing.
To be fair to Burns and Frampton they have fought decent fighters, Burns just ended up needing a lucky decision to beat them, Frampton has beaten Kiko and himself and Quigg have fought decently for the number of fights they've had, the only knocks on Frampton and Quigg are their last opponents, Quigg fighting some nobody ranked 88th was a joke and Frampton should have someone better then Parodi.
would you say they have fought the best available?? Burns is the biggest ducker in the uk atm. Hearn is pulling his hair out trying to figure out ways to keep hold of that belt. He ducked broner, vazquez and look for him to give crawford a wide birth also. Frampton and quigg granted are progressing nicely(barring last opps). Good point. Well said.
