"I was sick before the fight/had a fever but went through with it anyway." How many times have you heard this? Team Oquendo offered this up for the Holyfield fight just recently. Seriously, is there some airborne virus that is only found in boxing training camps? I swear I've heard this excuse over a hundred times in the past 5 years or so.
''I made a mistake'' - the common theme from Sports Network fighters ATM. They never elaborate on the particular mistake, however.
Getting punched in the face is normally the mistake they made. The most common thing heard with excuses is, of course, "I don't want to make excuses but..."
You sure you're asking excuses from fighters themselves or from fans... If its from fans then he's "SHOT" or "NOT HIMSELF" or "PAST PRIME"...
broken hand or some kind of injury during the fight. past it. moving up in weight. bad training camp. the word "excuse" has a very pejorative connotation. Sometimes an excuse is valid.
