The 10-9 system is rewarding a fighter barely touching more his oponnent the same way if the said oponnent dominates clearly another rd. In this PBF - Manny fiasco, the only real clear rds were won by Manny. All the rest of the rds were close and won by a very debatable margin. More so, the rules of boxing requiring fighters to engage are simply ignored. Nowadays, you can clinch, refuse to fight on the inside, run from your oponnent and still win the rd. People are right to critiscize PBF for his negativity, but i feel the real culprits are those who made these absurd rules, which are in fact only there so the scoring can be manipulated according to the betting. The Bradley - Manny fiasco of a few years ago is a perfect example. Boxing isn't killed by the fighters, but by the betting Mafia which controlls the rules and insists in maintaining an absurd and unfair scoring system that can be manipulated any way one desires. Pro boxing is just as crooked as amateur boxing.
I agree that the system isn't right. Based on the system, Mayweather won this fight 116-112 or minimum 115-113. Manny hurt Mayweather somethimes, being the agressor, and won those rounds 10-9. In other rounds, Manny was inactive and Mayweather controlled the round based on jabbing him, but not hurting Manny at all. But those rounds are scored the same as rounds where Mayweather got hurt. Manny did the more damage, but based on this system it does not even count. Something needs to change.
Judging is a very difficult job, the powers that be I think see 10-10 rounds as a slippery slope, they believe that if they encourage more 10-10 rounds most fights would consist of only 10-10 rounds and they worry about possibly more draws and possibly resulting in boxers taking less risk. But if you follow boxing in the old days even rounds worked very well. Then again back then they had 15 round title fights, so more rounds made 10-10s easier to work with imho. You can give someone a round when they clearly won it. If it is "too close to call" call it even. I believe that most judges hired in big fights go into it with a specific mindset that prevents them from being truly objective. So I agree with what you are saying, I'd like to see more 10-10 rounds but it's not exactly a cure-all either. I don't think judges today really have any idea what they are doing. When Floyd fights it's like anything close always goes to Floyd. In 70s, for example, Ali would "steal rounds" a lot by closing a round strong in a round that was probably even. But I never had a problem with it because of how he made it a point to close a round strong. It was his thing kinda and he also never really took that much damage so it kinda made sense. But with Floyd he wins a lot of close rounds and doesn't even finish rounds strong. So yeah, more 10-10 rounds I think would improve the sport drastically, but given how boxing is run and the way the mainstream thinks, it would probably confuse the ESPNs of the world too much and cause the mainstream to think there's controversey when it's really a more fair way to score fights. One thing to note, though 10-10 rounds are discouraged by the commision, it's not flat out banned. Judges can and sometimes score 10-10 rounds, it's really more a matter of which judges get selected to judge big fights and 99.9% of the time those judges appointed for big fights refused to ever give a 10-10.
The system is fine. Doesn't work for MMA, but it's definitely fine. Clearly Pacquiao fans sad, so they want to reshape the sport so that Manny might not get beaten 10-2
116-112 4 round Pac 8 rounds Floyd 1 almost draw round (gave it to Floyd) 5 close rounds - 3 to Floyd & 2 to Pac 2 clear Pac rounds 4 clear Floyd rounds The 4 clear Floyd rounds and 2 clear Pac rounds pretty much summed up the fight for me. The rest of it was two old men putting on a bad performance. Would have been an insane fight in 2010 such a shame.
did you not think mayweather looked good, i thought he was lightning fast last night. I think he could have really put it on pacquaio too but he was too comfortable in there.
Sorry no. I couldn't believe how bad both of them looked. Really slow. It's what I expected from 2015 Floyd & Pac though. Many said before the fight they would look old. Floyd was on point with his tactics. One or two times he strayed off and my god was I shaking my head when I heard Sr telling Floyd to walk Pac down. I saw two extremely gifted fighters both thinking a great fight but unable to execute as their bodys didn't allow them to do it. Will be surprised if Floyd is back in Sept...time is against him so he might push himself into that final fight if he truly wants it but either way I think showtime will force him to have it...
tbqh, I can only speak for myself but I think about this stuff all the time. Many fights have rounds that are even and it's tough to choose a winner.
Every scoring system sucks. These guys were getting paid over a hundred million dollars each, why are we even having a decision ? This should have been a fight to the finish. :deal As many rounds as it takes, until a KO, or someone quits. then maybe we'd see these guys actually do some fighting. Honestly, I'm shocked at how pussified boxing has become.
