Chris Eubank took everything Nigel Benn had to offer twice. Watch the first fight, the guy took brutal punishment, his mouth was ripped to shreds.
He had a tremendous chin Eubank, he did go down in that first fight with Benn though , not that that should be held against him though , just thought i'd say that because you brought that fight up when were discussing chins
yes james toney has a great chin but best of all time give me a break,he never come close to taking the shots chuvalo took
The joker that Toney can play is that he fought mostly south of 174lbs..he fought through all those weights standing his ground against heavy punchers from 154 to 245lb Sam Peters. He was viisbly shaken once (by Johnson, a month after beating Nunn). The likes of Hagler, Monzon and Hopkins never moved anything like that far up....could they have taken the bombs of Sam Peters? Hopkins would've run away. heavyweight chins alone I would rank the likes of McCall and Chuvalo higher, no doubt. But p4p Toney is the man.
He was never legitimately dropped in his entire career, and took some of the hardest flush shots from some of the hardest punchers while barelty even flinching. Only time anyone can recall even a slight drop in his activity after a punch was from a straight right directly to the jaw from Hearns, and then follow up punches, in which Hagler recovered almost immediately and returned fire. He was stunned for a second from a straight right off Hearns(one of the most formidable punches ever) and immediately resumed warring with him after a slight pause. The guy was made of steel.
What makes you say he has a better chin than Hagler? Makes no sense. Didn't face the punchers, and when he did, actually was dropped by them. Great chin, but not quite a Hagler or LaMotta, or at least he didn't prove it.
Nobody has any love for David Tua? Check out this article on him. The part with Andrew Golota is hilarious. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3183478
Now that you've finally entered the thread, based on your incredibly inconsistent knowledge, but knowledge nonetheless, who are some of your picks for the best chins of all time?
I've never claimed to be THE authority on boxing, friend - just a long time fan who's read alot and watched alot of fights. The first list, imo, is WAY too heavily weighted to older fighters, although certainly some of those guys belong. Anyway, here's my list: 1. McCall 2. Chuvalo 3. Hagler 4. LaMotta 5. McCullogh 6. Marciano 7. Basilio 8. Baer 9. Toney 10. Fullmer In rating chins you should consider the quality of oppostion they faced, how many times the guy was ever knocked off his feet, and how many times (if any) he was stopped. Being knocked unconscious automatically disqualifies someone, in my view. To my knowledge, most of these guys were either never or, in the lower reaches of the top ten, only infrequently knocked off their feet.
I'd put Toney over Marciano, other than that, this is a fine list. Toney has been down, but to fight from 160-HW and only get dropped twice is it and never really be hurt except against Samuel Peter is quite a feat. P4P wise, Toney's chin has to be top 5.
