I've never been sure what constitutes an historian.Though I like your posts whether I agree with them or not.
What types of historians are there? Both the living and dead types. The IBRO poll, which had over 20 members voting saw the bantam weights this way. Most of the voters were in their 40's to 70's Most have done research. Quite a few have written books. If your really interested in the history of the sport, you should join. The quarterly journals are packed with photos, research, press clippings, and such. Easily worth the price for admission. Boxing has an aging fan base, new people like yourself would be welcome. All time Bantam ratings: Eder Jofre Panama Al Brown Ruben Olivares Pete Herman Manuel Ortiz Carlos Zarate George Dixon Terry McGovern Kid Williams Fighting Harada Joe Lynch Johnny Coulon Jeff Chandler Bud Taylor Sixto Escobar Jimmy Barry Frankie Burns Memphis Pal Moore Jose Becerra Lupe Pintor Just missing the cut: Pete Sanstol, Khaosai Galaxy, Charlie Phil *********, Jimmy Carruthers, Harry Jeffra, Jeff Fenech, Owen Moran, Lou Salica, Raul Raton Macias, Alfonso Zamora, Bushy Graham, Alphonse Halimi, Orlando Canizales and Abe Goldstein.
The fact that Khaosai barely missed it despite being a career super flyweight shows you all you need to know about the validity of that list. I am friends with plenty of IBRO members. I don’t need to be a member to show I’m ‘really interested in boxing history’. Will join at some point though I’m sure, when I publish my own book probably.
I'm just saying the quarterly journals are excellent, better than anything you can buy. As a foot note the only divisions that were polled were the original eight, which might explain K. Galaxy's placement Flyweight to Bantamweight to Featherweight. Straw weight was not featured, the rest of the Junior and Super division, be gone! I'd actually prefer less divisions in the lower weight classes.
Soon guys, soon! That is a promise. I’ve been hard at work but life has got in the way. Almost certain that no.2 will be up at the end of this week!
An update....as to why there hasn’t been an update in a while. I have FINALLY finished the second ranked bantamweight. It comes in at nearly 13,000 words. So now you know.
It has been submitted mate! But with the Fury-Wilder coverage dominating the front page BM are waiting for the right time to publish it so it doesn’t get lost in the mix. It’s huge. And I THINK you might actually like this one...but who could it be?!!!?!
