And here it is! The greatest bantamweight of all time (for my money at least) is.... https://www.boxingmonthly.com/all-t...antamweights-of-all-time-no-1-ruben-olivares/
Flea, outstanding! I hung on every word. We disagree on the top ten but we definitely agreed on #1. Great article and great series.
Excellent work as usual. Really enjoyed every write-up. Bantamweight has delivered so many great fighters and pound for pound some of the best action but perhaps due to a general lack of top US or British talent in the divisions not one we see discussed enough. I always say I consider Olivares to be the most entertaining elite fighter caught on film alongside Matthew Saad Muhammad. So many epic fights like the Kanazawa re-match. Great fighter and one of my very favorites ever. I’d love to see the rubber match with Castillo. Unfortunately I’ve only ever seen a tiny clip from it which is odd considering the first two films are out there and were at the same venue on the same networks. The first two fights are classics. Castillo III stands up with Rose and Chacon II as his finest wins IMO.
Thanks for sticking with the series mate and for your contributions to this thread the last few months.
Hey bro I really enjoyed this whole series even though it was difficult waiting the past 2 months lol. I did learn a lot...got a question for you. McGrain did a list of top 50 in other weight classes do you have any plans to take these beyond top 10’s into top 20+ or only top 10? Follow up question. You obviously did extensive research into the bantams as you compiled and evaluated this ranking...did you go beyond top 10 in your evaluations and if so how far did you go and/or what might 11-25 look like?
I alluded to who some of those beyond the top 10 were in the write-ups themselves. Would never do more than top 10s because as you can see, takes a while to do 10. I’m looking forward to moving on to another weight class now!
That was so insightful, Flea. Truly. Thanks for taking what must have been an enormous amount of time to put this together. Your diligence certainly shined through in your work. I look forward to the next division! Thanks again, pal.
