Robinson had better footwork, better combinations, better punching technique, better body punches......better offensive skills, overall.....
Ezzard was awesome, of course....but I agree with the Cobra...he wasn´t more skilled than SRR....

He was basically just a bigger, lesser version of Robinson. Might of had the better jab, probably a bit better defensively, but that's it. Robinson was just better at everything else.

...the one area in which ezzard was much better than srr was in body punching. srr didn't work inside much and ezzard was a great infighter...not just a good infighter... GREAT infighter. the other areas may be open to debate but i think srr had the edge in them.

I actually think Robinson was among the best body punchers ever. Better than Charles. His body shots were wicked.

Ezzard was a better in-fighter than Robinson. That's his primary advantage. Apart from that, I wouldn't say he was notably better at anything, whereas Robinson was notably better at a few things.

Benn watching alot of Juan Manuel Marquez lately. His counter-combinations are absolutely ridiculous. He deserves a mention in this thread.

...it's not a matter of opinion...it is an observable truth that ezzard was one of the great infighters and robinson was not. too bad archie moore isn't still around to verify. archie said robinson had only one weakness, and that was a lack of skill in infighting, and ezzard was one of the best. actually it;s not a weakness in robinson's case. he was long and lean for a welter and so superior on the outside there was no reason for him to fight in close. that style also worked for him as a middleweight. .

If you ask me Ezzard was the far better distance and range boxer than Robinson. I also think his straight punching was better schooled overall.

Because he was more talented. He had better natural physical gifts. I understand how it's a slippery slope, but this is the difference between Robinson belonging in a thread like this as opposed to belonging in a ten most talented fighters thread. Yes, I do understand there's a discernible difference between most technical and most skilled. Again, another slipper slope.

I'd say Charles had the better integrated defence, jab and power, but Robinson is better everywhere else. Footwork is close though.

That, plus his superior in-fighting would make him the far superior fighter, now wouldn't it?

That's why I'll have to disagree.
