Kid Gavilan vs Billy Graham III is definitly my first pick here, and I think you would say the same too.

I think Gavilan would feature quite well in this list with his bouts with Basilio and maybe even Bratton.

You could also mention some Napoles bouts in particular Cokes I.

I forgot about Duran vs Leonard I, that would probably be the top one actually.

I wish i could say Robinson-Gavilan I, all reports point to that being a BRILLIANT fight, it has to be, two greatest welterweights in the sport, but i cant and theres quite a few fight i could say, dont know where to start, the most memorable has to be Leonard-Hearns though.

    Good stuff guys :good

Gavilan-Graham would be near the apex for me for sure.

    Here's my go at it:

    1. Roberto Duran vs. Ray Leonard I
    2. Kid Gavilan vs. Billy Graham III
    3. Donald Curry vs. Marlon Starling II
    4. Pernell Whitaker vs. Buddy McGirt I
    5. Ray Leonard vs. Wilfred Benitez
    6. Pernell Whitaker vs. Julio Cesar Chavez
    7. Luis Rodriguez vs. Emile Griffith I (probably the one which was most keenly contested)
    8. Jose Napoles vs. Curtis Cokes I
    9. Kid Gavilan vs. Johnny Bratton II
    10. Ray Leonard vs. Tommy Hearns

Anybody think that the Ross-McLarnin fights qualify? Or are they too torrid and frantic?

Been a while since I watched them actually. I normally watch Ross fights fairly regular, in fact I reckon I'll watch the third one tonight.

My favrouite Ross fight would qulaify here, his tactical dismantlement of Billy Petrolle. I just love that fight, the way Ross was so complete and did everything and Petrolle wasnt too shabby himself.

Ross vs Petrolle would get into my top 10

Yeah, I'd forgotten about the Petrolle fight. Looked brilliant, Barney did in that one. The full arsenal unleashed. And like you say, Billy wasn't at all too shabby himself.

Griffith vs Jose Stable is a good one, though I'm not sure if it cracks the top line. I think ss did a thread about Stable quite a while back if my memory serves me correctly.

No doubt, one of if not THE most comprehensive performance of Ross on film, but Billy looked a tad sub-par there and probably that's what keeps it off my list.

I've never been massive on Petrolle, don't think he is that good to be honest, but he is definitly a solid fighter and Ross displays one of the most complete performances I have seen.
