If both guys get knocked down in the same round they cancel each other out, so an otherwise even round with this occurrence would be 10-10 not 9-9. Also if one guy won the round it would be scored 10-9 similar to Quartey vs DLH round 6
If both fighters had points deducted from them in the same frame in an even round, then you would score 9-9. That's the only time it would be appropriate to score a 9-9 round.
Personally, I find the moratorium on scoring even rounds to be a bit misguided. Even rounds do occur and choosing a winner of the frame in such cases can come down to an arbitrary decision.
I believe it is still scored 10(-1)-10(-1) with the point deducted from the total score not the individual round
An example from Mayweather vs Castillo I. Castillo was assessed a penalty in rd 8. Mayweather won the round on all 3 cards yet it is not scored 10-8 but rather 10-9(-1). Forward 2 rounds and Mayweather has a point deducted. He wins the round on all 3 cards, yet it is not scored 9-9 but rather 9-10(-1). The point gets deducted at the end of the fight. Not really. I think this is a great thread and have posted a couple of you be the judge threads in classic for this very reason. I followed boxing for 20+ years before I understood the rules of scoring and the 4 components used for scoring a fight (clean hard punches/effective aggression/defense/Ring generalship) I just scored Harold Johnson vs Willie Pastrano in another thread. The clean hard punches were a wash with a slight edge to Johnson, defense was a wash and masterful on both sides perhaps an edge to Pastrano. Effective aggression was a wash as Johnson was the aggressor but not very effective...ring generalship Pastrano dictates the pace and range and controlled the flow of action. I scored for Johnson by a pt. But 2 of 3 judges scored for Pastrano. I can’t help but think that it was his generalship that sealed the decision in his favor. I wished we had more threads like this
Scoring even rounds were far more popular back in the old days, you'll see scorecards from the older days and you see judges scoring even rounds all the time. I wish judges would score more even rounds from time to time. It wouldn't be shocking to find scorecards like 6-4-5, 3-4-8, 3-2-10 scorecards from fights in previous eras. 1 of the judges in the Montreal Duran vs Leonard fight scored 10 even rounds lmfao.
Yeah, that was a little bit much, but there were a lot of really close rounds in that fight. In re-scoring that fight, I noted at least four rounds that I felt could be scored even without hesitation.
I personally had 2 even rounds that fight, I haven't watched it in years tbh. Perhaps I'll go back to it someday. I get what you mean though, even rounds DO exist in boxing and I wish judges would score more even frames. However, I do get why it's so discouraged in the professional scene.
So you were eight and the Domino's guy was ten? You sure we didn't miss a couple of flash knockdowns?
You need to come up with something a little better than just saying ''you're wrong''. Some one said earlier that both start with 10 and you deduct points from there and that is right on the mark. Points are never added and can only be subtracted. To say that at least one of them must have 10 pts can't happen when a point has been deducted by the ref. What's the difference between a pt deducted for a foul and a point deducted for a kd. They are both 1pt off. You may come up with evidence of a fight where pts have been added to make at least one score 10 pts but that can only be either incompetence, a lack of training or neglect of this matter at judges seminars. Either way any judge who adds pts is wrong. I will reiterate the point of on a boxers record if pts have been added when both have been down there is no way of knowing that there were kd's in that rd by looking at his record.
