Yes, but Khan and Taylor still deserve minimal respect.

I like Taylor, actually. I think he's a good kid who gets a lot of undeserved criticism. He fought the best out there, including an immediate rematch after being knocked out, so you can't really fault him in that aspect. I was one of those people who wanted to see him humbled and now he has been, I've changed my opinion of him. I don't like Khan though. I'd be the smuggest **** in Britain if he got knocked out against Gomez. I don't think it will happen but I'm sick of him and the media attention he gets.

Every boxer, even Khan, deserves the universal respect for getting in the ring and fighting, however, that's minimal compared to what most top pro's deserve in terms of respect.

He's been matched really easy and is already as wealthy as Hatton or Calzaghe, that's straight absurdity. There is not much substance to even back the hype and while that isn't all on him of course, he himself cannot even talk correctly and is an arrogant little *****.

Honestly though, styles aside, all top pro's deserve the same respect and ones like Vasquez and Marquez really deserve more respect than generally recieved.

I also think guys like Mijares, who have to work their way up the hardest route possible, through corruption and other hurdles, deserve more respect than guys like Khan, who are given a red carpet ride.

After the joking though, Taylor does deserve respect even if I don't like him, he's fought dangerous competition. KHAN is a whole different story though.

I didn't like the way Harrison was introduced to the pro scene either. Before he's ever fought without a head guard he'd made $2m and national exposure from the BBC. He had plenty of sponsership deals and other deals going on too, so he was a multi-millionaire without a pro record. He didn't deserve it any more than someone like Calzaghe did. And Khan only won a silver medal too, so that's even more annoying. Both guys worked for it, sure, but they didn't earn that kind of money.

I will never fault somebody for taking those kinds of deals, we all would. But I fault the promotion for giving it to them, and then not giving Calzaghe any sort of such deal, despite Calzaghe OBVIOUSLY being a hell of a lot greater talent than both Khan or Harrison, Hatton is a greater talent as well, by far at that.

The establishment would gain more money in the end by choosing true elite potential to hype.

Not novelty sells like 'brave Audley' and '17 year old olympian OMFG!!! Amir'.

But hey, he was competitive with a past it Kindelan at age 17, very promising amatuer, must mean he'll be an ATG pro right?:rofl

They obviously know nothing about boxing, which is a shame considering the amount of money that can afford to pump into it. Harrison had good credentials prior to becoming a pro, but I would imagine any true impartial expert would know he didn't have potential to be world class. Despite the Olympic gold medal, he was never going to be a Lewis, Klitschko, Leonard or Ali. I guess they chose him because he was easy to market. Someone like Calzaghe who was obviously a class above Harrison at such an early stage, should have been given similar opportunities Khan and Harrison got. He hadn't achieved as much and would have been harder to market, but he was a star in the making back then. I don't know of many people who legitimately thought Harrison had world class potential after seeing his first 5 fights. If I remember rightly, he got booed out of the ring in his second pro fight against some part-timer. Yet the moey stil came in in bucket loads.

And it's not even guys just starting their careers that they should back, either. Whilst Amir Khan is getting millions upon millions thrown at him, most world class fighters barely get any exposure. I don't even think Vazquez/Marquez III was shown in the UK. Who deserves the mainstream limelight more? Khan or Izzy and Rafa? They should stick those fights on Khan undercards if nothing else. Think about all the megafights and superstars boxing in Britain is missing out on because some clueless executive would rather hype a guy like Khan, who will stab him in his back in the future, anyway.

Well, for a true top world champ, you need serious skill potential, tenacity, grit, stamina and a chin to start with. Khan has no chin, Harrison has limited heart and no chin, yet Calzaghe, who had it a lot harder, has all of the physical gifts and more with heart, chin, some power and a pleasing style, AS WELL as the ability to develop top tier skills and the results show.

That's why I agree with you they have no knowledge. After Joe beat Eubank, money should have been pumped in him for serious promotion, because even with Eubank being past his best, for a green fighter to deal with him that handily shows a ton to me if I am a promoter, not the case, as it's all about marketability.

Olympic golds with big mouths and kid's who win medals(Khan) look so good to the average idiot who half watch the finer details anyway.

100% agreed. Why do people think I try to tell as many other boxing fans possible about underrated top talents, such as Mijares or Guzman, who get limited to no exposure for lengths of time, then hype jobs like Khan or Berto get big time slots on top boxing programming, UK and US.

Khan's already been on HBO and he's main eventing UK cards, sick, developmental fights should be just that, developmental.

On the flipside, at least HBO put Gamboa on the main event and it was justified because Gamboa was actually fighting against a legitimate top 15 durable guy in his 10th fight. A development fight, but against someone who wasn't 'trash', a near-contender. But since Gamboa had a rough moment, oh no, let's now not hype him and continue with the Khan bull****.
