But it doesn't matter if they refuse to fight each other. The IBF Charlo should fight Williams and Lara should face the other Charlo. At least we get Adrade vs Culcay so that's a start.
The division has Lara, Andrade, the Charlos, Williams, Trout, Cotto, though I think he's washed up, and let's assume Brook as the elite. Those are 8 quality guys and I love a lot of matchups that can be made between them. Martirosyan is world class but he's likely only good enough to lose in competitive fights to the top guys. Then after that there's nothing. 8 really good fighters doesn't quality as a "deep" division. Molina's at 147 now, and you're not proving anything by mentioning Ishe Smith.
It has good star potential, It's not deep. Being able to name 6 fighters doesn't define deep, and certainly not absurdly deep.
GTGO! 160 is a wasteland filled with B levels and bums. There is not an elite or A-level to be found in 160. Golovkin definitely is no elite. Only his 8,000 fans would cuss and say he is. He just feeds on the low calibre of fighter presently fighting at 160, which is the weakest I have ever seen it in 80 years. The 154 division is not only deeper with more talent laden champions and contender than 160, but the beautiful thing is, they actually fight one another. in 2016, the sport's most competitive fights came from the WW & SWW divisions.
Too bad the fights aren't being made. Trout and Vanes get passed around, but the others need to square off against each other to build hype for the division.
Agreed. Now that both Charlo brothers hold titles, they have to defend. Williams is aggressive and vocal, so I'm sure something is cracking there. It will be interesting it Brook returns to 154 although I don't expect him to face top 10 opponents if he does. I'd like to see Brook Vs Williams.
? yet he lost to lara, would be beaten also by andrade and charlos also have a huge shot at beating canelo, hell the cotto fight was a draw for alot of people! The best at 154 is 1. Lara 2. Andrade 3. Vanes/Charlos 4. Canelo 5. cotto
I like J-Rock. I'm hoping he can be a catalyst to get some of those fights made, even if ultimately it is Al's call on who in his stable fights when. He's been targeting Jermall through the IBF, and that'd be a very fan-friendly fight if it comes off.
The Charlos...one of whom got dropped by midget Bellamy and out boxed by Jackson the other got run close by Trout? Lara and Andrade are talented but frustrating. Brook is unproven at the weight, Canelo won't be there much longer. Williams I do like but he needs a willing dance partner.... Vanes is meh
Hard to say he is the best when it's arguable that he lost to Lara and Trout, and hasn't fought Andrade, Williams, or the Charlo's.
Lara was considered the best fighter at 154. Regardless if you think he won or not canelo got the decision making him the best at 154 he also beat trout who was highly ranked at the time.
