Put it this way, if RICardo Lopez was AT LEAST a featherweight doing what he did ,he would be a debateble 1 or 2. on your list.I saw many of his fights under PPV undercards and he was everything Marquez is but better in every department. no exageration

Lopez was probably the most textbook perfect boxer I've ever seen, without the resume to back up his skills. He had to rely on dominating everyone in his path which he did effectively throughout his 17 year (I believe it was) career. He could've fought guys like Carbajal and Gonzalez as well though, as they'd have been good scalps for his resume. He'd have beaten both in his prime pretty handily if you ask me. He did after all beat a young Sorjaturong by easy 2nd round KO, the same guy who went on to stop Gonzalez in the fight of the year in '95.

Of course it's speculative. This is a forum, not a university lecture. I think those guys should be considered pound-for-pound better fighters than Calzaghe, because of the reasons I stated in the start to this thread. Hopkins stopped 2 Hall of Famers in De La Hoya and Trinidad, he was the 1st man in 8 years to defeat the best defence in boxing- Winky Wright, he jumped 2 weight divisions when he was over 40 and dominated Tarver, the recognized light-heavyweight#1 at the time. He also convincingly beat Glen Johnson, which is as any boxing fan will tell u (inc Roy Jones Jr) no easy task. Is that enough for you??

If you hold those opinions, start a really interesting thread called 'Fighters Joe Calzaghe May, Or Might Not Be, Ranked Equally Alongside'. That'll stimulate a great debate.

I'd only put Jones, Lewis, Morales, Barerra, Mayweather and De La Hoya above him on achievement and resume.

So, not anything like 17, ridiculous.

The problem is that it's made as a pronouncement, not offered as an opinion. I'm sure you picked Hopkins to beat Calzaghe too. And probably picked RJJ to dominate Tarver and Johnson. And I'm guessing that you think Pac beat JMM both times out. Just as I could be wrong, you could be wrong. Just debating...

Yeah, he's had 23 to be fair.

Your problem is that u assume, when there is no basis for it. I have no idea at all how you could make these random guesses at my feelings over certain fights through my opinion of Joe Calzaghe in relation to other fighters of the same era.

I think Hopkins DID beat Calzaghe. It's an opinion many people share. After the 1st Tarver fight, I knew the RJJ we knew and loved was gone. I was terrified going into both the 2nd Tarver fight and the Johnson fight. I scored Pac-JMM I a draw, and I believe Marquez should've got the decision in their 2nd fight. So your opinion of me was entirely wrong.

I doubt it, the adultery started quite late in his marriage it would seem.

I don't want to make it seem like I'm defending Joe's actions, but she wasn't performing up to standards - trust me.

So you think Calzaghe has been a better fighter pound-for-pound throughout his career than either Bernard Hopkins or Manny Pacquiao or Ricardo Lopez?? Look at their records and what they have achieved. Those three are far and away above Calzaghe. I think you must be a little insane. Or Welsh.

I overlooked Lopez, I'll backtrack on that one, a mere reading error.

Yes he's above Pacquiao and Hopkins on mine, nothing insane about it.

All right, fair enough. But I'm still entitled to be suspect of cross-evaluations of a fighters' greatness. It sounds fine in theory but I just don't think it plays out in reality, except in the most extreme cases.

    I'm not Welsh, strictly speaking.
