The two that came to mind have already been mentioned:

Hagler always looked very intimidating. Indeed that look was so intimidating to me I was sure Chuck Gardner was being underrated going into the Bruno bout!

And after Cowdell, Nelson always looked fearsome to me.

So I will put forward Iran Barkley. He seemed to me the last person I would want to square up to in a dark alley.

It may have been after the bell, although I disagree to the extent that the commentators thought it was. Regardless, one dont appear too tough and rowdy when ones back is flat on the canvas, gazing at the heavens with a sleepy look in the eyes.

    Fantastic post.

Honeyghan seemed to find that out after 6 rounds....still ill never lose my awe over how almost drugged in a trance like state of sluggish frenzy...if that makes sense...honeyghan was from the introductions all the way through the first 6 rounds.....if you watch the brittish bbc telecast...mike tyson is doing the color commentary....he makes these very points.....commenting that honeyghan looks like he "just walked out of bellvue psychiatric ward" (altho typical mike he says psychic ward :)......he also comments as early as round 2 "lloyd is not fighting to win this fight...ive never seen him fight like this before....

What was it all about....i still say intimidation.....the mental panic most rare at that top level surfaces in an otherwise experienced elite operator.....it happened with spinks 6 months earlier

    Yes

As an aside nobody ever fought intimidated by curry....hell 3 opponents in a row shamelessly tried to billygoat head butt him repeatedly.

The regal and rarely sublime complete fighter curry was from 1982-mid 1986 didnt intimidate...he mastered the master starling.

I agree julian jackson was v intimidating..almost horrifying in a way tho he was as goodly a man as has been in boxing

I see your point...but i feel he was waaay overhyped by the east coast magazines and lou duva.....ayala as we now know was a limited bully albeit a talented multi skilled fighter .

I think his intimidation wouldnt have worked with a davey Moore not ruined by durans thumb

Still would have loved to see Hearns fight Marlon. He wouldn't have had his way fully with Starling either.

Iran Barkley put the fear of God in opponents. Remember when Michael Olajide was supposed to be the next big thing, or when Darrin Van Horn was going to school him. They **** themselves.

He admitted he was, he just didn't show it.

Tyson had told Nigel in 89 not to ever go anywhere Barkley, calling him a 'bad, bad man'. That's Tyson saying that.
