    CANASTOTA —

The 2011 inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame will be announced at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Inductees will be named in five categories: Modern, Old-Timer, Pioneer, Non-Participant and Observer.
Members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and an international panel of boxing historians cast votes. Voters from Japan, England, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Germany, Puerto Rico and the United States are among those who participated in the election process.

“The Hall of Fame’s annual announcement is an exciting moment for the boxing community,” Executive Director Edward Brophy said in a news release. “All eyes turn to Canastota to see who will be among the new class of inductees.

“All inductees receive a permanent place on the Hall of Fame Wall and living honorees will be presented with a gold Hall of Fame ring at the official induction ceremony.”

The 22nd annual Induction Weekend is June 9-12. More than 20 events — including a banquet, parade, golf tournament and the official induction ceremony on the Hall of Fame Museum grounds — are scheduled. A celebrity lineup of more than 50 boxing greats is expected to attend.

What possible reason could there be for not voting for Mike Tyson?

I guess. Still, it's pretty much settled that boxers who haven't conducted themselves as gentlemen are going to get in...

Tyson used to beat up old women in elevators. He is on the same level of most of the scumbags of boxing. Robinson, LaMotta, Monzon, and King are a step above him, but Tyson is still a scumbag.

All of them are scum but you can't deny their accomplishments in the ring. It's called the boxing HOF not the conduct HOF. Being a good person does not get you in the boxing HOF.

:goodSome of the guys I'm a fan to are scum but it helps me to support them only for the fighters they were/are inside the ring. Outside of the ring I don't hold them too highly.

CANASTOTA, N.Y.—Mike Tyson, whose meteoric rise to the pinnacle of boxing and stunning fall from grace was legendary, was selected Tuesday for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum.

Three-division champion Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico and Russian-born Kostya Tszyu, a junior welterweight champion, also were selected along with Mexican trainer Ignacio (Nacho) Beristain, referee Joe Cortez, and actor/screenwriter Sylvester Stallone.

Posthumous honourees to be enshrined on June 12 include: bantamweight Memphis Pal Moore, light heavyweight champion Jack Root, and middleweight Dave Shade in the old-timer category; British heavyweight John Gully in the pioneer category; promoter A.F. Bettinson; and broadcaster Harry Carpenter.

Inductees were voted on by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and a panel of international boxing historians.
