He's a total bell-end. Case in point: He beat Margarito and immediately started saying he was now a star and would only take the big fights. He loses to Quintana, avenges it in a rematch and immediately starts complaining that no one will fight him. Because he's NOT a star and he presents too many problems to make him worth the risk.

So, he hops between weight classes before refusing a fight with Pavlik at 160 after complaining that he wasn't getting a title shot. Instead he hops back to 154, Hopkins kicks Pavlik's ass instead. STILL Williams complains about how no one recognises him.

So, Williams signs to fight Pavlik, who clearly isn't healthy. The fight gets pulled, Williams fights Martinez instead, is gifted the decision and then bitches that no one wants to fight him. He goes on to fight Cintron and gets gifted another dubious decision (albeit in much stranger circumstances). Then he goes out of his way to avoid fighting Martinez who had, by now, kicked Pavlik's ass to take the MW title.

All the time he's trying to get a fight with Mayweather, Pacquiao, Mosley, etc., without actually earning it at their weight. Or in fact, really earning it at all.

Then after Martinez lays him out, all we hear is that "That's boxing, nahwahamsayun?" instead of correcting his flaws. And despite getting his ass kicked by Lara, he's STILL saying he deserves the big fights and seeing himself as in line for a shot at Sergio.

    Total ****ing primadonna.

  2. williams is hardly on the knob scales of the likes of floyd, bhop etc, any 98% of fighters would claim they won post fight. If that makes you automatically a dickhead then most boxers suffer from it

glad to see a bit of common sense has come out of this. I dont care how you look at it this was fixed

Hopkins is a knob but has had a legitimate case for winning several of his losses. The only totally clear ones were his first and the one to Jones Jr. He also had a fair point that he deserved more recognition – he fought everyone in his weightclass and beat them to hold his title.

Floyd is also a bell-end, but as you see people are losing patience with him. But at least he's won his biggest fights.

Williams is a ***** – he's achieved a negligible amount in his career all things considered. His best wins were close and somewhat unfair decisions in his favour (Margarito, Martinez I) and he went out of his way to avoid the rematch with Sergio.

If he was a true warrior he'd want to rematch Lara. But I bet he won't.

    Suspended, why, what's the point?

If your questioning their integrity, then why should they eventually be allowed back to officiate again? If your saying their incompetent, that's another reason why there is no point suspending them only to allow them to judge again.

Because Williams, like many fans, thinks throwing loads of punches is the same as being busy. I think that throwing loads of weak slapping punches, missing 81% of them and never hurting your opponent is undeserving of praise.

Especially when the opponent clocks you constantly, dictates the fight and busts you up throughout for 8 of 12 rounds.

It was just such an appalling decision. It wasn't even a close fight. Williams could conceivably have won four rounds, but the better work was always coming from Lara – you're meant to score on clean EFFECTIVE punching. And nothing Williams did was particularly effective after the 6th round.

That's the issue – the judges were scoring vastly inferior work by Williams, presumably because he threw lots of punches. And more amazingly, there are plenty of fans who feel the same.

Coming forward, moving your arms and expending energy has now become "making the fight" and is enough to score in someone's favour. But really, if you're getting countered and your punches barely land, you aren’t making anything.

The judges haven't done anyone any favours.

Paul Williams has turned into a poor man's Anselmo Moreno for me, just not as awkward to attack

They're screaming "robbery" because it was. Williams didn't win more than four rounds realistically. Judges and some fans have become swayed by volume of shots rather than quality of shots. Lara was doing better work and hurting Williams in nearly every round. Even accounting for the quieter rounds where Williams outworked Lara, it's hard to give him the fight because Lara won at least seven rounds very emphatically. Williams won maybe four, simply on activity.

The only thing keeping Williams in it was his pitty-pat flurries. But Every time he had success Lara rattled his head around. Simple as that.

It's not so simple as Landed > Volume > Percentage

    There are four criteria:

Clean punching – The most important of the criteria and Lara takes this easily, landing nearly 50% of his punches – more than Williams landed.
Effective aggression – Lara again, when he attacked he had success. Williams was largely flailing, landing only 19% of his punches and never untracking Lara.
Ring generalship – This has to go to Lara. He set the terms of engagement early, fought his fight and forced William onto shots. He was effective coming forwards and going back, and he controlled the tempo of the majority of the rounds.
Defence – Lara again. Williams was busted up, he kept getting hit by the same punch again and again. Lara meanwhile blocked most of Williams punches on his arms.

It's not just about how many punches you throw and land – it's about what your punches do to the other man when they land. It's how consistently you work. It's about how you control the fight.

fights are scored by rounds not punches thrown/landed.
