I forgot about Bivins. I think he beat Ezzie when he was pretty green and has a KO win over Archie, couple wins over Marshall too, and a win over Burley. I would rate him over Kid.

Marshall is a toss up with Kid. He hold a great win over Charles and I think he got to Burley one but he got toasted by an older Ceferno Garcia twice when he was young and lost most of his big fights with the row.

The kid was older when most of the row was peaking and he was still Williams superior for most of their fights.

    1. Charles
    2. Moore
    3. Burley
    4. Bivins
    5. Kid
    6. Marshall

Is good. Tunney and Burley are too low and as i'm sure has been pointed out to you Jimmy McLarnin is missing.

good sir, I believe you have a made an obvious error. Pacquiao should be at number 1. He is the best thing since sliced bread. I don't normally point out embarrassing mistakes made by others - it's not the done thing to do - but I thought I'd better tell you now so as to avoid further embarrassment.

    toot, toot.

No sir #36 on my list. I rate the 30's LW very high. I was thinking about throwing Ambers in there as well.

This was the first list Tunney was outta my top 20.

Ah, McLarnin is on there, just far too low. It's a good stab though! Ambers definitely deserves a spot.

I used to have him at about 20. I'm just not that impressed anymore.

I do believe as a boxing fan that the 1940's would have been special.

What is it that doesn't impress you?! The fact that he was consistantly able to dominate and KO much bigger men or his top to bottom resume from MW to HW? I'd say his MW resume is better than Bernard Hopkins and his p4p achievment utterly dwarf his. If Hopkins had a win like Dempsey on his ledger, people on this board would be trying to install him at #1 at MW. 20 is also too low.

Agreed. I rate Fitzsimmons as p4p number one pre1920 and probably the equal of Ezzard Charles overall.

btw. Fedor. What about Tommy Ryan? Very forgotten fighter but imho deserving of a Top20 or perhaps even Top15 ranking.

Yeah, Tommy Ryan is top 20. But Fedor did a good list overall apart from the ludicrious Fitzsimmons thing.

Dempsey was smaller. :D The win over Corbett was nice. He beat Choynski too didn't he? That's a bold statement you make about him and Hopkins. I can tell you are an avid fan. It's a shame film was in it's primitive stages but still may the Fitz be with you. I just can't bring myself to rate a pre 1900's fighter that high.

I know i'm biased. Jack Johnson is the oldest fighter I truly appreciate.

I disagree with some other rankings too but it´s not by much. Apart from the Fitzsimmons ranking and that Gavilan, Bivins, Marshall and Griffith aren´t in it. But no shame in forgetting some fighters, it´s very hard to do such a list.
