Most fighters realize that the 0 doesn't matter as much as the resume. No one could even question the greatness of Floyd if he fought a more appropriate tier of opponents over the past 7 years.

Would you rate Sven Ottke above Bernard Hopkins?

I agree. And floyd doesn't necessarily have to take a beating. He could very well take paul williams, mosley, cotto, pacquiao, or margarito to school. That would only show how great he really is. He just has to fight these guys or other quality opposition. Floyd has great skills, there's no denying that.

Yup...so have you asked yourself, "why doesn't he make these fights happen?"

    Hmmm...

Good article and noone is beating mayweather anytime soon. Not mosley, pac, or paul williams.

Retiring at an early boxing age when the oppposition seems to be too challenging helps preserve a deceiving undefeated record. With great reasoning ie. "I want to spend more time with my family" helps deflect criticism from knowledgable boxing fans.

I agree that at least for the most part, Floyd has mastered the sweet science; I'm not entirely sold on his ability to be the aggressor.

Against Sharmba for instance, he wasn't making as much of an impact or looking as good as we would usually expect from Floyd, but I also understand that under most circumstances, Floyd will never have to play the roll of the aggressor.

Although, I think he would have a hella of a difficult time with contemporary opponents like the Forrest that beat Mosley for instance because I don't think Floyd could win a fight with him with his defense alone.

But as a defensive specialist, and considering his lack of opposition, I would say he mastered the Sweet Science, but he is NO Sugar Ray Robinson or even Sugar Ray Leonard for that matter, and I'm sure a select number of other fighters that I have not spent enough time analyzing to determine what type of fighters they were.

At any rate though, SRL and SRR who are better than Mayweather were both beaten before, so Mayweather can be beat, but with the current crop of opposition, it is highly unlikley.

Mayweather is a great fighter though, but his resume is pitiful for an ATG, and that's both his fault and the fault of the era.

Even if Mayweather fights and destroys Pacman he WON'T get the credit he deserves. Won't people say he's as big as Marquez too?

Look, even if he fights and destroys the entire Chavez family, which I'm sure he can, all in the same night he won't get any credit.

Floyds cowardice trumps all the talent he has. He looked good fighting only when he is not challenged.

I disagree. Floyd will have nothing left to prove in boxing if he defeats a fighter who is being labeled as, not only the p4p best, but an ATG with the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson, Willie Pepp, Roberto Duran, and Cassius Clay.

If he beats this version of Pac decisively, he will be labeled as the greatest fighter of our lifetime...easily.
