The '90s was a good decade for Heacyweights.

    At the top you had Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe and, to an extent, Tyson. Those four guys alone were more interesting, and watchable, than todays entire division. Underneath you had a bunch of guys, any of whom would easily be a top 5 Heavyweight today;

    Ibeabuchi
    Byrd
    Golota
    Moorer

You also had Foreman and Holmes on the comeback trail - they'd probably beat some guys in the top 10 today. ****, I'd rather watch peak versions of McCall and Rachman than any of the guys getting title shots in the next couple of months.

The 1980s were total ****. People just glorify it today. You had Larry Holmes at the top for the first half and Tyson for the 2nd half. Underneath there was little depth of talent or noteworthy contenders.

People who run their mouth how shitty todays HW division is should look back to the 80s and lay off the nostalgia kool-aid.

:lol:this division is shyyyyte..... u do realize that vitaly is fighting a 90's leftover tomorrow right and when vitaly wins this will be one of his better wins. Tyson never beat anyone .....hahahahhahhaha.....who has beaten someon then. ...........:patsch:patschwhy do some people even post??
Golota- a poor man's adamek........christ. Golota would decimate the limited barely cruiserweight and utterly hittable Adamek in his prime. Do u not friggin realize that another 90's leftover arguably beat Adamek a couple of months ago......
Bowe would walk through this division to be an arguable favorite vs wlad and vitaly -
Tua's a bum huh??? yes he's a bit overated but again u realize that Wlad offered this 90's leftover a title shot right (that's how bad this division is). Moorer's a bum huh? he'd smack around Adamek for starters

    :hi:

Yes the average quality has definitely decreased. On the other hand the top fighters in this era (Klits & Haye) are on par with former champs or at least on a similar level but it's unfortunate that the only 3 really good legit HWs in this era refuse to fight each other.

good article. well thought-out and very well researched. A+.

sidenote: you're a moron. the 90s was a superb era for boxing. the heavyweight scene was in one of its strongest states ever, infinitely stronger than today (lewis, holyfield, bowe, tyson), and there were many other amazing ATG fighters throughout every weight class (whitaker, jones jr, ricardo lopez, canizales, morales, barrera, oscar, tito, mosley, toney, hopkins, michalczewski, tapia, etc etc etc)

Fail. Really, a bad bad fail. :nono

Everyone has a off night. Look at Wlad for instance. Back when he had 38 plus fights under his belt, he was sparked by journeymen like Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster. He was on ***** street anytime got touched on the chin. Fighters like Peter, TOS, Brewster, and Sanders. All had him falling head over heels bewtween 03-05.

I think anyone with a good set of eyes could see this division is lacking, not only in talent, but excitement as well. It's once in a blue moon HBO or showtime will show a heavyweight championship fight live in prime time anymore. It's a sad state of affairs the division is currently in, when two dominate champs are never on TV.

The 1990s was quite weak for heavyweights. I remember it well.

The Bowe-Holyfield trilogy was a great series of fights though.

yeah because that foreman would have no shot at such legends

such as chagev, ruiz, valeuv, mascaev, peter,

rather a 45 year old legend that wins the real championship than a guy like mascaev who has been knocked out over 8 times win a version of it 2 times
