The fights at heavyweight that need to be made are not happening, which only continues to perpetuate the idea that this current era is terrible. During the 90's contenders would fight each other to earn their shot. Guys like Tua, Byrd, Golota etc would fight other contenders or former title holders to earn their shot.

Today we bemoan the level of opposition of the Klitschko's because no heavyweight contender or prospect is willing to fight his way to earn a shot. Guys like Arreola can get a title shot by beating journeymen and over the hill contenders because nobody else has built a better resume to earn a shot ahead of him.

It's a ****ing disgrace and you can't blame the Klitschko's for nobody else in the division for having any balls to fight another contender or getting in to something resemble good condition. At least the heavyweight of the 90's came in reasonable shape unlike the current crop of reject sumo wrestlers we have for a top ten now.

the 90's could have been amazing.

    but tyson got locked up.

    foreman won the title.

    and lewis got avoided.

    still a good era.

shannon briggs was a young prospect at the time. :p

now he's just a tired old retread somehow getting a title shot. :patsch

I loved the 90s. We had great fights like Holy Bowe 123, Lewis Mccall 12, Lewis Holy 12, Holy Tyson 12, Holy Foreman, Foreman Moorer. Foreman Morrison. Tyson Ruddock 12, I mean hundreds of great fights. And these are just the HWs.

At least the guys in the 90s lined up to fight for the championship, rather than ducking out, and the champs almost always fought the top 10 ranked opponents, even when DK controlled half of them.

Tyson's reign in the late 80's was not only the weakest era in HW history, but maybe in all division history. Tyson never beat better than a C fighter.

A fat, unmotivated 38 year old Lennox Lewis whooped a prime version of the 2nd best HW of today, the same guy who alot of people say would whoop his little brother, who happens to be the best HW of today. So, yeah if 90s was really that bad, what can we say about today??
