    Agree or Disagree?

Although not pretty, I have no complaint with it. It's a valuable skill to have.

Examples of fighters who have used the clinch well

    Ricky Hatton
Shane Mosley (See Antonio Margarito fight)
    Wlad K

Examples of fighters who must learn to clinch :

    Miguel Cotto
    Jorge Linares
    etc.

Alot of you are complaining about Wlad holding during his fights, will you atleast concede that what he's doing is a skill?

there is a reason alot of refs don't issue warnings on "excessive holding" its a grey area, since its extremely hard to see who initiates it and conter-initiates it

I dont like holding but its a good tool to use when you lack inside game or are hurt.
Its smart by wlad when a guy gets inside he ties him up.
People should just deal with it and figure out a way to win, I blame mormeck a lot for the clinches as well, dude basically was just trying to get inside on wlads chest withut throwing anything.

Pac coulda used this skill against Marquez; it's one way to prevent return fire (or "smothering"), but I think Pac has a penchant not to clinch out of principle.

Also, I doubt anyone here who has Boxed before; can deny that they've initiated clinches.
I used to at times, and I teach the kids that there is times to do it too. Avoiding out of Machismo or some sort of mis placed pride is stupid.

SJS why do you think foreigners, meaning not American, often neglect the clinch skill?

It's a very good skill, but only when you know how to work in a clinch.

Wlad uses it effectively (for him...but probably should be pulled up more on it), but frustratingly...I wouldn't say he uses it well. If his opponent was relentless and landing shots as he was coming in, then perfect, Wlad would be negating his opponents offense. But once an opponent is mid-range (throwing shots or not), Wlad opts to clinch...he doesn't even attempt to move out of range using his superior footwork the majority of the time.

Mosley-Margarito is a great example of how to use a clinch. A relentless, pressure fighter in Margarito...make him walk on to shots, then suffocate his opponents work, without making it too obvious.

Also, Cotto used the clinch perfectly against Margarito in their second bout.
