...ehm...why would that not be thus? You think the Romanian promoter should pay the fighters and still not organise the fight wherever he wants?:huh
:huh There was a purse bid. This means that whichever promoter bids more can organise the fight, where and how he sees fit. Shaw, Dawson't promoter, bid $500k less than Diaconu's promoter, Gankor, did. Diaconu's promoter won the purse bid so he will decide where to organise the fight. The fight will be in Bucharest. :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy
What would the purpose of a purse bid if the promoter of the champion effectively still got to stage the fight?
Gankor is Interbox' partner in Romania. They organised Diaconu's last fight there. Diaconu sells much better in Romania than in Canada, it seems. Diaconu seems to prefer to fight in Romania too. Most if not all of the money will be Romanian anyway, I think. Interbox would never have spent more than $500k on backing Diaconu, I think.
What we might see now is secondary negotiations. Dawson's camp might threaten to abandon the mandatory to go straight to Tarver in order to force the bout to take place in North America. Still, though, that is a great investment on the part of Interbox/Gankor, so I can't imagine they will move the fight outside of Romania. That's also a very nice payday against an obscure mandatory, so Dawson and his camp are probably happy to make the fight. I just wonder what money is on the table to fight Tarver -- the bout Dawson has preferred all along -- and whether it's enough to satisfy both parties. Let's just hope this is resolved in the next week or 10 days.
What if he could fight Tarver for a better purse and the obvious greater exposure, then come back to Diaconu in a unification? It's business, Dec.
I hope you are finally satisfied. "How do you know it's $1m for Dawson, blah, blah, blah...:dead " :-( :verysad :-( :verysad :-(
Tarver won't offer him more than $750k at the outside, I bet... Unless Dawson thinks Diaconu will take him out, he should take this amazing deal and then unify against Tarver. The Romanians are clearly behind Diaconu and will put the money to bring anyone they want to fight him for the belt, if Dawson drops it. Let's see what Dawson wants...He said he wanted more money than the rubbish offer Showtime made him...he's got it!
It was a valid question. You made the assumption without offering any proof, and you still never conceded -- as you should have, long ago -- that this whole thing comes down to money. Remember, the Dawson people wouldn't even discuss Diaconu until they got pissed at Showtime/Tarver for a perceived short offer. It has nothing to do with competition and everything to do with finances. But I'm enthusiastic about the purse bid and hope to see the bout come to fruition. Tarver's act has worn thin and everyone is tired of waiting for him.
With the Romanians offering Dawson BY FAR his greatest ever payday, it will look very bad for Dawson if he doesn't defend against his mandatory, after having ducked him for so long. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT!:deal
I'm very curious what the number is. I can understand not wanting to fight in the challenger's hometown, but hopefully they'll reach an understanding. My preference is Romania, but Chad is the champ and he should have a say to a certain extent.
