Chris Henry Interview - translated by me

"If Diaconu is the best, he'll show it in the ring!"

Chris Henry: "If someone is sent to the hospital on the 19th, it ain't gonna be me!"

Chris Henry is very relaxed and confident: "I feel great in Romania. The people here are wonderful! I haven't felt any hostility towards me from anyone I've met so far. It's much easier than at home. I'll make a great fight on Saturday. I'm not afraid of Diaconu because I'm afraid of no one! Diaconu is a great fighter, with plenty of fights under his belt, but I am ready for him and we'll have a great fight. I'm not afraid of the ones I fight or of what happens in the ring. I trained long and very hard for this fight and I'm afraid of nothing. Records don't say anything. I am trying to fight, not to increase my KO%. It doesn't matter how I win, as long as I win. It would have been good to have this fight in America. Diaconu is favourite here because he's at home, but I don't care how many supporters he has. Anyone who wants to can come and see me train. I have nothing to hide. Diaconu can come see me train too. I've sparred with some fighters who have won titles. Some of them fight in the same style as Diaconu but they're much better than him. I have had a lot of very strong opponents.

Ronnie Shields, the ex trainer of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield [Henry's coach]: "We wouldn't have come here if we didn't think we would win. I want the whole world to know after this fight who the World Champion is. If I am going to pay a visit at the hospital, it'll be Diaconu I'm going to see! Henry and Diaconu are very good fighters. Both have a very good chance of winning but we've come here to fight and to win! Diaconu will feel at home, but we're well prepared. The crowd won't influence us. I've prepared something special for Diaconu. He's in for a big surprise! Diaconu is one of the best opponents Henry has fought and he is quite experienced too. But if he loses and asks for a rematch, we won't give him one because we're not looking backwards. You have to move forward to become World Champion. Henry and Diaconu can beat anyone at 175. I have a very good relationship with Chris. He listens to everything I say and applies it in practice. Everything we'll end up just fine for us!"

The fight with Henry is a good tune-up for Diaconu after such a long layoff.
I'm hoping he's able to get a couple of rounds of good work in before he KO's Henry.

Though I thought the Dawson-Johnson fight was a draw, I'm not to upset that Dawson got the nod, because it helps the division move forward with some of the younger guys, and it keeps the Diaconu-Dawson match in the spotlight where it belongs.

Diaconu will KO Dawson, he is a pressure fighter like Johnson, but with more angles to get inside and a wider variety of power shots that can put Dawson down.

Unless Diaconu can catch Dawson early, it will probably take a few rounds for Adrian to slow Dawson's legwork and fast combinations from the outside enough to really start landing big shots. It will probably be pretty even on the cards when Dawson goes down, somewhere in rd 8 or 9 by my estimation.

I don't suppose there's any chance of this fight taking place in Europe, but if so I will definitely be in attendance.

On a sidenote, I'll be interested in watching Andre Dirrell's next match on the 2nd of May. He fighting that boy Hanshaw that lost by UD to RJJ in his last fight. If he was touching up Dawson that bad, he's got to have some serious skill.

The Diaconu v. Henry fight will be streamed for free on the TVA link that we watched Bute v. Joppy on last time, if you remember - seemed good enough then:

click on the TVA icon on the right hand side of the video screen, right under "Canada":

This link should work, I think.

There is also bound to be a sopcast link for the fight from

    - the Romanian Channel that showed Mayweather v. Hatton last time around.

We will know on the night what channel that streams on, but I hope we won't have to rely on it. TVA link above was much better.

The fight starts at 8.30 pm UK time, I think. I'll confirm that later in the week, once I hear more myself.:good

Thanks Decebal. Can't wait. It's been too long since Diaconu's last bout.

Yes Johnson will be ringside tomorrow because he will likely face the winner of the fight as a mandatory challenger. The son of José Sulaiman who is overthere has confirmed that the WBC sent another ultimatum to Dawson. He has 90 days to face the winner of Diaconu-Henry otherwise he'll be stripped off. Sulaiman's son has clearly said that the upcoming Dawson-Tarver will not be an unification title bout...but only for the IBF title. There it appears that the winner of the Diaconu-Henry fight will likely become the new WBC champ soon. Then Glen Johnson will immediately have a shot at the title due to his last good performance.

Henry is actually a very nice, polite, considerate and civilised young man! He's made a very good impression in Romania and he seems to be enjoying his stay there too.

    Wish him all the best!:good
