Letter of the week from Ring Magazine Feb 2011: 'Pacquaio dominated Margarito, he looked great... (but) is starting to chip around the edges, especially after fighting another bigger man... But Manny and Team Pacquaio are also giving Floyd Mayweather what he wants. Floyd is waiting for Manny to wear himself out against the elite of the 147 division, while he preserves himself. Then he will fight Pacquaio. Floyd is a coward, but a smart one.'

Muhammad Ali defeated every top heavyweight in his era, which has been called the golden age of heavyweight boxing. Ali was named "Fighter of the Year" by Ring Magazine more times than any other fighter, and was involved in more Ring Magazine "Fight of the Year" bouts than any other fighter. He is an inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and holds wins over seven other Hall of Fame inductees. He is one of only three boxers to be named "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated.

He's overrated by some members of this forum, but in the long run, their opinion is hardly relevant. It's easy to distinguish between fanatics and observers of the sport.

Too bad the Margarito fight never happened. That would have been a fun fight, especially considering both were in their prime when it should have happened.

(Although, if Margarito really was cheating at that point, it's a good thing it never happend because that would be completely unfair and cowardly)

It would be interesting to see how Floyd would deal with a big pressure fighter with a solid jaw, especially considering Floyd has a tendency to go back to the ropes.

At that point though, he was more mobile, as he showed against Baldomir. Either way, that would have been a great fight.

But Floyd is a businessman. He's made millions of dollars by strategically choosing his opposition.

Imagine if Floyd went in with Margarito, and couldn't hurt him, either due to having hurt his hand or Margarito's chin, and eventually Margarito broke him down or stopped him.

What would that have done to Mayweather's earning potential?

You have to look at boxing like a business. If you put yourself in their shoes, you may not be willing to test yourself against guys pose stylistic problems.

That's why Floyd won't fight Martinez, nor will he fight Canelo who is very big and strong although, it's a winnable fight, unlike Martinez in my opinion, but instead, he will more than likely fight Berto.

He doesn't fight the opponent that's best for the fans, but he fights the opponents that are best for him. And you can't blame him for doing it if you're buying his PPV's. He didn't become the highest paid athlete in the sport because nobody wants to watch him.

Nope. Legit ATG. Some rate him higher and some rate him lower. ATG nonetheless.

Missed the top guy at 140/147 due to no fault of his own, but that doesn't mean he gets fake wins over them. So that hurts his PLACEMENT more than anything.

He'll just say what ellerbe said. Pacquiao doesn't make the demands. Floyd does?

What he doesn't realise is alls manny said was he'll accept all floyds demands.

No, I didn't say anything like that, I was just showing a quote from the time, seems to have come true to an extent, Pacquaio started showing signs of decline after Margarito.
