People are looking at just the names, not the rankings at the time. All I hear is "What ATG has Floyd beaten?" well, it's not all about the names or ATGs, if that was the case Marciano and Camacho should be in the top 5 overall, but they're not.

Take a look at Angel Manfredy people take a look at that name and either don't know who he is or think he's a scrub, a lot of people don't realize Manfredy at the time was the number 2 guy in the division and on his way to being fighter of the year in 1998. Of course people don't like to research that kind of thing. They're just lazy and look at the names, not the circumstances behind it.

    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for that G.E.D. level assessment. Now, I didn't see anything in there on the level of faking a retirement and watching the best fighters in the weight class beat the **** out of each other when they were at their best...then coming out of this fake retirement and challenging these guys who practically fought everyone in their weight class while he was "retiring". Any way you put it, that has to be one of the biggest ***** moves ever in the history of boxing. I can't remember anyone who purposely faked a retirement to avoid fighting certain opponents at their best.

Research what? I watched many of Manfredy's bouts live back in the day. He was a friday night fights level guy. Nothing more. There's a reason why Mayweather's win over Manfredy isn't looked upon as something which enhanced his legacy. Because it didn't.

At the time it did. It doesn't matter what your opinion is of Manfredy, at the time he was looked at the number 2 guy by virtually everyone and was on his way to being fighter of the year. That is not a very good win because?

That win helped him win fighter of the year. Of course it enhanced his legacy. Manfredy was a damned good fighter.

Well, looked upon as #2 by virtually everyone, but The Ring(#4) and all the writers who vote in their rankings. As far as I can tell it's more of a reflection on how weak the division was more than anything else.

Not saying the two are similar in any way stylistically, but Manfredy is a career Friday Night Fights guy. Sort of like Provodnikov. Are they impressive in that context, yeah, I guess. But just by looking at them you can tell they'll never reach that next level. Not trying to knock on FNF's either. I happen to love their production and find their cards to be better than some PPV and Pay TV cards, although lately it has been lackluster. Another guy who fit this mold was Pawel Wolak. Love watching these guys, but let's not make them out to be elite.

Edit-Manfredy might have been a USA Tuesday Night Fights guy, can't remember.

The Manfredy win is a good one.

RING Mag announced going into the fight that the winner would be the Fighter of the Year, 1998. Obviously, Floyd over Manfredy is a good one, and along with Jesus Chavez are his underrated 3rd/4th best wins at 130.

He was above the Provodnikov/Walek level. Especially at the time entering the fight...

Manfreddy was pretty average as a fighter.

His claim to fame was outboxing Gatti (because being a better boxer than Gatti was so hard) wearing devil masksm and getting stomped to **** whenever he challenged for a better title than the WBU.

Compared to Pacquiao wins, it rates slightly below beating Oscar Larios.

What a vague and ridiculous post. :rofl Refusing to prove that you are a clean fighter is not as bad as taking a Vacation? :rofl Hate to inform you, regardless if Floyd takes a vacation or not, fighters of all levels will continue to beat each other up.

As if Floyd can just come back when the dust is clear and start fighting guys who took brutal beatings... Oh wait Pac... Already got that job.:rofl

he did it already. when the WW division was waxing hot from 2006-2009, floyd was either fighting hatton, on vacation or marquez. all the while these WWs were beating each other up.

Well, if that's true, it hard to believe it based upon who he beat inside the ring.
