I don't think it's a ***** move considering the skill of Canelo with a huge size advantage. Canelo and Chavez Jr definitely the kings of losing weight. It's only a ***** move because we expect better from Floyd.

Older Sergio fought Chavez Cruiserweight Jr and G Rigo fought Donaire who was much larger and relatively more dangerous than Canelo. Floyd should step up to the plate.

Regardless, this fight is not going to be made anytime soon. Floyd will have nobody else to fight so early in his contract. May 2015, the earliest.

Dude you're ****ing ******ed, "never take a serious threat"? This has been in the works for all of 4 days, and you're reacting to a guy with "inside sources" that you don't know. Get grip bro...

People with common sense the need to let things play out. Then discuss after it ends. The fight will either get made or it won't.

    Lets use a few examples.

Have you ever tried to lose weight yourself? For health reasons or otherwise? Have you ever reached that plateau where you stop losing weight with the exercise routine/diet you had yourself on?

If you have then you have felt the fatigue and energy loss that comes with that type of weight-loss. You feel groggy and tired, your energy is significantly different.

Now take you in that position and put yourself in your favorite physical activity, be it football, basketball or what have you, playing with the same guys you used to play with BEFORE you lost weight. Your performance is going to be alot different.

Now lets factor in the boxing element, in that most fighters (below heavyweight) are fighting at a weight less than their natural walk-around weight, meaning they already have to lose weight, THEN train their bodies to a certain weightclass to get in their most optimum condition at whatever that weight is.

So for someone like Canelo, who walks around probably in the 170-180 range, he is training down to begin with, just to fight at 154...which is why he rehydrates (while in his optimum muscle/training condition/state) to 165-170.

So now, if Ive made it clear enough, you are playing a game of LB's in most situations as a boxer, lbs = muscle/energy =resistance to punches / stamina and POWER.

So for someone who is naturally around 175 looking to fight at 154, they first drop their natural water weight, so they are at about 165-167, THEN they start burning whatever fat and muscle theyve got to start making their way down to either below 154 or JUST above it, then they have to train strenously to get themselves in peek condition, in terms of stamina/speed/power, then as fight night gets close they may plunge again, to get just at or below fight weight. Just to make the 154 for a guy who is naturally big, he has to lose alot of weight, watch his diet and as the fight night gets close, he has to watch his fluids.

So essentially, those 7lbs you asked about in your post are, PURELY muscle=power=stamina in the case for someone like Canelo (or any fighter who is big) because the point where he'd have to start LOSING those 7lbs would already be a volatile condition for him, it'd essentially chop right down into his natural optimum state of physicality.

So yes, it is a big deal.

Canelo will retire Cotto if they fight. Cotto isn't a true LMW and has trouble with guys with good hand speed and power. He'll likely get stopped in brutal fashion - although I'm hoping he can shock me.

Fans tend to act like spoiled brat sometimes. If we don't get Floyd-Canelo what's wrong with a fight like Canelo-Lara or Canelo-Chavez Jr or maybe Golovkin? Plenty of good opponents not named Floyd.

If you're going to pick a boogieman for Floyd at least find someone from the same weight class. Keith Thurman is just as "dangerous" for Floyd as Margarito was back in '06.

Floyd is all business and clever matching at the right time against decent fighters with a high profile, many of them are hyped very fast to have a fight with Floyd.

Why the **** he don't want to fight Canelo at 154 if he says is the best ?! He's a well sized ww, he's not that little for 154 !

I agree....I think these people who are knocking Floyd were just waiting for something negative to say....

I'm unsure if he will.....I like to think a champion like Cotto has another great fight left in him but I used to think that of Shane too.

I personally like Canelo as an opponent for Floyd, alot of people are calling for it so I guess it will mean something if he beats him, no doubt they will claim he was ducking Broner all along if he does! :yep

Most fighters below HW are already "draining" themselves to make weight.
A LHW probably weighs between 185-190 on fight night, going in to the weigh-in they haven't been eating or drinking for pretty much 24 hours, to make sure that there is as little water and fuel in the body as possible.
So when an athlete who has a body fat % at 6-8, and haven't been eating or hydrating himself for a pretty long time, steps on the weight. What more can he cut, that isn't going to decrease his ability to perform the day after?

... do we have any actual evidence he has insisted Alvarez come down in weight?

If so, I'm jumping on the criticism bandwagon along with anyone else. But if we're relying on someone's spoken word, I believe I'll wait before passing judgment.

It's easy to look good against opponents who aren't too much of a challenge. Canelo is a real challenge and Floyd is looking for a way to fail negotiations.
