If Mayweather beats Alvarez, his next fight will be at WW against the Khan/Alexander winner. Who has ever been a unified champ in 2 divisions at the same time?

Floyd vs the winner of Lara-Angulo fight would be a solid match IMO. But if it not happens then I'd prefer to see Floyd fighting with the winner of Matthysse - Garcia fight ! :yep

    ...instead of this catchweight nonsense.

Same day weigh in would have negated the all the "catchweight" noise, would not have cast a dark shadow over the fight in a historical sense and would have neglected Alvarez the chance to walk in the ring as a light heavyweight.

Plus, it would have had the added benefit of making Alvarez look like the guy who really didn't want the fight had he refused.

once they see how much Canelo rehydrates to and the weight disparity, it won't matter much..

its no negative when a fighter who started at 130 asks a fighter who walked in at 171 in his last fight for a catchweight - be satisfied the fight has even been made

Nah, I like the catchweight better. It gives Alvarez the opportunity to rehydrate comfortably.

No need for smoke and mirrors here.

Yeah, he's gonna boil those last two lbs, but can come to the ring as heavy as he pleases.

I like to see same day weighin coming back, because many boxers nowadays should be fighting 2 weightclasses higher and it would be a lot more fair that way.

But in this case it would severely limit Canelo's ability, because let's face it, almost none of the LMW's are actually LMW's.
A catchweight at 152 is a lesser evil as all the other options when not fighting at full 154.

I reckon it's better for Alvarez this way. Gives him more time to rehydrate.

But still, Mayweather's ****ed it up by implementing a catchweight. Tainted his victory.

So, you think Floyd should have demanded a ridiculous roadblock?

    A catchweight has historical precedent.

A rehydration clause... I ****ing hate that idea and I hope it never happens.

I support same day weigh ins, but since that isn't the case in the current boxing landscape, you take it for what it is.

Rehydration clause would just be stupid and would favor particular, higher profile fighters even more.

if Floyd will beat Canelo lots of people will say that Canelo was too green and that he should've waited 1 or 2 years ; have a couple fights with Martinez, Cotto and maybe 3G and then go after Floyd, but these are just nonsenses and silly excuses IMO.

No hydration clauses either. Floyd must be a G!

the problem with the catch weight is, your discrediting your win.

Its just ammunition now, so if floyd wins, there'll always be people who will say he weight drained him, even if he didn't (like Pac/Cotto and Pac/Margo)

So why not just fight at 154.

Although the reason why is casuals don't care. I told my girlfriend that the fight was made, she's a big canelo fan. But then tried to explain the catchweigh thing and she just had a blank look on her face and said. that won't matter its only 2 lbs.

Definitely. There's nothing wrong with catchweight fights. They're ok. Always have been (barring a few instances) and always will be (barring a few potentials).
