Immediately after the Gatti fight Floyd tried to get a fight with Cotto or Hatton who was fresh of his stoppage victory for Kostya Tszyu. Cotto and Hatton were both sitting ringside when Floyd destroyed Arturo Gatti and neither of them were willing to step in the ring with Floyd without a few more fights under their belt. Arum didn't see the logic in a Mayweather Cotto fight and suggested that it was 'premature.'

So he tries to get a fight with Winky Wright after he beat Arturo Gatti; Winky and his handlers refused anything less than a 50/50 split. Floyd was still a Bob Arum fighter at that point and Winky was a Gary Shaw fighter. Neither wanted to budge in the negotiating table. Floyd who was still at 140 was ready to come up to 160 to fight Winky but money prevented this fight from happening.

Incidentally Gary Shaw is the same guy who advised Winky to turn down Oscar De la Hoya's offer for $6 million in guaranteed money plus $6 for every PPV buy over 600K. It should be noted that Winky has never gotten an offer that lucrative from anybody since.

So when Floyd Mayweather was up for renewal of his contract his national profile was rising, he wanted big money fights. So Arum wanted to throw him in there with Margarito and give him $8 million for his trouble but that fight would come with strings.

But Mayweather also wanted to fight:

Cotto for $10,000,00.00
Hatton for $10,000,000.00
De la Hoya for a $20,000.000.00

Arum rejected Mayweather's proposals saying that he'd get:

$8 million for Margarito
$7 million for Cotto
$7 million for Hatton

The De la Hoya fight was simply out of the question.

So what did Floyd do? Bought out his contract from Arum for $750K and fought Baldomir for $8,000,001.00

De la Hoya for $25,000,000.00
Hatton for $20,000,000.00
Marquez for $15,000,000.00

De la Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley and Ortiz are all Golden Boy Fighters.

Margarito, Cotto, Clottey and Pacquiao are all Top Rank Fighters.

The moment that Cotto was no longer a TOP Rank Fighter a Mayweather fight materialized.

Coincidence? Not likely.

Mayweather is better than Pac in every catagory.
Pac probably wouldnt even make good sparring.
What it is is BUSINESS --- all business.
Let Pac build himself up and make the fight bigger and deserve the fight.
There are no free rides.
Why should Pac bypass 4 or 5 other fighters who rank higher than him.
Three for sure ie. Bradley, JMM, Thurman.
All most likely can beat Pac.
