The game is constantly evolving. What Floyd has done will have an influence on generations of boxers to come but there can be only one Floyd. Gotta love it when people say floyd has avoided threats . . . Fighters only become nonthreatening when floyd schools them and then the next boogieman comes along . . . only in boxing . . .lol

Not much different than it really has been.

The movement towards favoring the zero loss began as activity of fighters decreased while purses increased. A natural progression and correlation...

I believe viewership ratings and fan following would indicate that the fans do respect being undefeated to a large degree... It didn't start and won't end with Floyd.

You can't cherry pick your way to the elite level. As you move up levels, your competition has to be at a certain level. If you're not good enough, you'll suffer setbacks before you reach the elite level. Mayweather has over 20 world champions on his resume, several HOFers, and many top 10 rated contenders. If you're not elite, you're not going to excel against that level of comp.

casual boxing fans think being undefeated is a big deal but hardcore boxing fans realise if you fight enough great fighters in their prime, your eventually gonna lose.

The thing I really don't like is this everybody tries to be like Mayweather picking opponents for an 0 an overlook the fact that Mayweather fought legit comp on the way up P4P rated champs/two fights vs the best LW of this era/superstars ect.../an all on hot streaks. Its a few legit 0's but you can clearly tell tge difference between a Mayweather undefeated and how a guy like Broner had. I don't think you can blame him for that he started fighting #1 rated champs at 19/20 and is still fighting champs at 37. Half these guys haven't even fought one current champ with title's being praised. Hell look at Cotto he's a HOFer but he didn't fight a reigning champ til Y.Foreman.

So does that mean every fighter in history was ducking or cherry picking until the fight they suffered their first defeat? You can't change your opinion on a broad statement like that, so yes, you do feel that way and I'm sorry for you.

    You can't generalize like that.

Gary Russell Jr.'s being undefeated means relatively nothing.

Kazuto Ioka's being undefeated means a lot. He hasn't cherry picked his way through anything any more than any top ranked fighter out there is doing.

    ---

Ones' opinion on a fighter cherry picking is relative to their opinion of the fighter in question as well as the opponents' skills.

Is Wladimir cherry picking guys like David Haye and Alexander Povetkin just because he is the 8 to 1 favorite to defeat them? No. That just points to the betting public's respect of Wladimir that he can fight the next best or second to next best HW and be a massive favorite.

Is Wladimir cherry picking guys like Francisco Pianeta? Yes. But by those standards many ATG's of decades past faced dozens of "cherry picks" even in their prime and as champions.

    Yes and yes.

    Good point.

However, titles mean close to nothing. Who holds the title can make it meaningful, but even then less so than a higher ranked and better thought of opponent who doesn't hold a title.

Lomochenko took Russell's mandatory after one fight, if Russell wanted a top fight decent opposition he could. GGG has to wait for Sergio to retire or agree to fight him then he will be the undisputed best middleweight in the world, you don't see any of the other champions including Sergio chasing him for a fight do you
