It's happened before. For a couple of examples, Bowe got his HBO contract and fought easy opposition, or perceived easy opposition. Leonard cherry picked after the Hagler fight.

Mayweather has fought some solid opposition as well as the easier ones. The PPVs still sell well although Guerrero apparently didn't live to PPV expectations.

The powers that be try to create, or "manufacture", stars and sometimes this results in "hype jobs" and guys being matched softly. I don't think it's Floyd but just the way the sport is.

 

Mayweather is affecting nobody. They choose there paths. GB was begging Canelo not to fight Trout and he said screw you guys I want the fight and he was 22, and then he took on the best fighter of this ERA. Mayweather is affecting nobody bro.

Broner just took on Maidana, he didnt have to take that fight.

I totally disagree with the cherry picking stance. People are just running with that now but its garbage. However, for the sake of your argument, lets just say its true. It still doesnt dispute the fact of what you said in your very 1st sentence. He fought the best to get to the top and then he "cherry picked" so if young guy are going to copy him then they have to fight the best first. He even said that about Broner and other young guys they tried to compare to him.

 

Of course he will affect other fighters and it's obvious that the effect is there at the very moment. All fighters want to take a similar route because it guarantees a better future. In the end, if money wasn't involved in this sport, it won't exist.

 

If Void wants to do what the fans want he could make the fight with Pac a reality, but instead he has been running ever since Pac stopped Cotto........it's time Void sign the contract and make the fans happy...........since Void claims to be fighting at 154, he should have taken the Martinez fight at 154, or Golovkin at 154, those fights would be sold out and then some..............

 

It's the sad truth. Modern guys cherry pick more to pad the record. They also stay amateurs a lot longer to get that experience, so they won't have to learn on the job and pick up losses where people judge them harsher. There's more defensive style boxers and they fight less frequently too.

 

you're going to see more and more 'good' fighters rack up meaningless wins and making money doing it. whether they take a serious step up or not will depend on the promoter they are signed under

there is a LOT of money to be made building 'rep points' with the beercan fan without ever stepping up. in a sport that isn't mainstream, and offers precious few fighters top dollar, that's a big incentive
