Pacquiao is ahead, he's had a more accomplished career i.e 8 divisions, 4 lineal titles, 3 ATGs and he had losses because he is a risk-taker and what sets him apart is that he delivers the win in dramatic fashion. The same cannot be said of his counterpart. Although, more skillful and talented, has never put his skills to the ultimate test because he emphasized that his health comes first. Floyd could have ended this debate a million years ago but he opt not to, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the fight is still not made and I put all the blame on him. Pac>Floyd

At this point, without a doubt Pac is WAY higher. His accomplishments were stunning as he moved up and weight and destroyed people. Floyd has ducked, dodged and jived.

What a ridiculous criterion for judging fighters. The opinions of "real life boxing fans that I actually know'? Seriously… wtf? The opinions of 'media figures' don't count. I guessing the opinions of the majority of the members of this board that voted on this thread's poll also don't count cause they ain't "real life boxing fans that I actually know."

There is an abundance of reasons to think Pacquiao is greater than Floyd aside from him being a "nicer guy."

His ability to scale in weight is pretty much unparalleled in boxing history. The only other fighter who has possibly bettered him in this regard is Henry Armstrong. Pac turned pro at around 100 pounds. He's fought from there all the way up to 150. That's a staggering 50% increase in body weight. Winning titles in 8 divisions and being lineal in 4 are both completely unique accomplishments in the history of the sport.

Fought ATGs in their prime. Probably at least 5 or 6 fights of this caliber (Barerra i, Morales trilogy, Marquez i & ii)

Mayweather has never really fought an ATG in their prime. The closest he's come is maybe Marquez. Yet Mayweather had Marquez jump 9 pounds over what he had been accustomed in his last few fights, only for Mayweather to break the catch weight and come in 2 lbs over. Small counter puncher vs big counter puncher. Imagine a 161 catch weight fight between Floyd and Ward where Ward weighs in at 163. Would you give Mayweather hearty odds at winning that fight?

I don't want to denigrate the win too much, as it still adds a lot to his resume, but it's not the kind of win an ATG would want as their career defining moment. In 45 fights Mayweather has still yet to have his "legacy fight." Could, hypothetically, Mayweather beat an ATG in their prime? Yes, I believe there are many prime ATGs he could beat, but the fact remains that he has never really been tested.

Manny also has more elite stoppages by my count. 6 (Barrera, Moralesx2, DLH, Hatton, Cotto) against 2 (Corrales and Hatton). Even if we put an asterisk by the DLH stoppage, it's still 5 > 2.

These are just some of the reasons why most rank Pacquiao higher. Yes, Pacquiao has lost while Mayweather never has, but losing is just a product of frequent exposure to the most dangerous fights. This is why nearly all the greatest boxers lost (often more than a few times) and why being undefeated has NEVER been a big deal in the eyes of boxing aficionados. Mayweather is undefeated in 45 fights. Using this as the measuring stick of greatest, even when just comparing Mayweather to boxers with overlapping careers, this puts him below Calzaghe, Valuev, Chavez jr, Nielson... Who the hell regards Nikolay Valuev as an ATG?

Here's a question: Would Mayweather be undefeated on Manny Pacquiao's resume? If Mayweather had to have 62 fights in stead of 45. Face multiple ATGs in their primes, and do it over the massive span of weight Pacquiao has, would he still be without loses?

You make a valid point that Matweather's career as been more consistent than Pacquiao's (green floyd > green manny). Mayweather's lows have been higher than Pacquiao's lows, but his highs have also been lower than Pacquiao's highs.

Pacquiao's early career twin KOs don't exactly do his legacy any favours, but I don't think most think they do much detriment either. Pacquiao was a completely different fighter then. Not many hold Mayweather's amateur losses against him.

Pac has been ranked close to floyds.... with loses. What happens to floyd once his 0 gets popped? Lets say floyd loses.... and wins his next bouts.... but how for how long can he stay dominant after that? Floyd picks his opponents and he aint getting younger. Theres nowhere else for floyd but to go down... thats it.
