The "All Things Mayweather/Pacquiao" Express!!!!!!

Show me one legitimate, serious thread merged since the announcement.

I know everybody is excited but there didn't need to be twenty new threads made in the span of an hour on the subject. That's excessive, and is exactly what this merge thread was made to curtail - talk of this fight drowning out all other boxing talk by spamming up the board.

None of the merged twenty or so threads have been any great loss, if you take a look. None were serious threads of any quality. They were stream of consciousness knee-jerk reactions that didn't really need to be unique threads. Look at some of the damn titles. Is the forum worse off for having all that silliness all swept together in one dustpan?

Seriously, I'd love to hear anyone defend any of those as the jumping-off point to a meaningful, productive dialogue.

Any thread with profanity or childish name-calling as part of its title, or ban-bet threads, or gloating "I told you so" threads, or ad hominem threads about fan groups - those are garbage. Threads like those get deleted (not even merged, but deleted) as matter of course no matter the subject. It has nothing to do with Pacquiao & Mayweather. Those all happen to just be trolling & garbage threads made impulsively but that don't really need to exist, much less clog up the entire 1st page of the forum. Not every thread idea is a good idea. This isn't a chatroom. This isn't Twitter. Not the place to just make a thread with the first thought popping into your mind, as though it were your personal diary. Overt redundancy, on any type of forum, on any subject, is considered spam and dealt with accordingly. People complaining about the spam in the aftermath of the announcement being merged, STFU. It's just spam.

...because it has a purpose. An official prediction & poll thread makes sense. One. Not an endless deluge of them, but one. cuchulain was the first to make one, so his is official.



Real threads like that (except not that exact one, no more prediction/poll threads, because there needn't be more than one) - for instance, technical analysis threads like Bogotazo used to make, or any other legitimate thread with a constructive purpose that isn't trolling garbage (hint: anything with multiple exclamation points or cursing as part of its title is probably going to be considered garbage) - will be left alone, with the fight now official.

Worthless trolling/spamming nonsense flooding up the board will still be 86ed as it would be anyway regardless of topic. I never promised they wouldn't.

 

Not really, and even if so I don't care about whether or not the owners make any money. I'm not employed by this forum, I just happen to hold a set of keys. I'm gonna use it to do good as I see fit, and in my interpretation that means fostering an environment where all boxing topics get a fair chance to be discussed...including "unpopular" divisions like Cruiser or light flyweight, which if you left the inmates to run the asylum would be needles in a haystack of trolling about the same dozen or so mainstream names (May, Pac, Hopkins, Wlad, Khan, etc)
