Still disagree. You just have to watch a southpaw v orthodox fighter to see its a move very often tried by the southpaw. Floyd did it a lot V ortiz to good success. Nothing wrong with the footwork. To each his own.
Don't just disagree for the sake of disagreeing, mate. I'm not ganna be too hard on you with that post you just made. It speaks volumes by itself. But i'll just say that last time i checked Floyd is not a southpaw so why would he do 'a move tried by a southpaw'. And what exactly is it that he was trying. Do southpaws try to get themselves into bad situations/positions and knocked out often? lol It can't be 'to each his own' in this instance. It was a clear mistake and i explained to you why. Zab wasn't trying anything you're giving him too much credit, he closed the angle on himself and walked into the second right hand precisely because of his poor foot placements. He almost tangled his feet, ffs. And not for the first time. You have to watch Zab's other fights to see this constantly coming up too. It's a habitual thing. :good
Hairy, i caught the content of your post before you edited. I believe you were talking about the size of gloves? I would say if you're training or sparring use the big gloves. Particularly if you're sparring. So 14oz gloves and even bigger. For training use the gloves which have as much padding as possible. The more paddling the more protection for your hands. I have a heavy bag at home and using anything smaller then 14oz gloves is killer on my hands. I think the smaller the gloves the better you tend to feel though and the more you get out of yourself. But sparring and training use the bigger gloves with more paddling. That would be my understanding and experience anyway. If i'm talking nonsense someone please correct me.
I use 12oz if I go to the gym to whack away at the bags. I used to have a couple of pairs, one pair of 10oz BBE and some 14oz Everlasts. The BBE's nearly caused me to require a wrist operation, and because my hands are quite small I couldn't clench a proper fist with the 14's. I prefer gloves that are quite tight anyway, I don't mind a bit of pain or the odd trapped nerve in my elbow, I'm that used to it now having played so much rugby and cricket it's a quick job to put it right.
I used to spar with 16oz gloves as a kid, kids would spar me with 10. The moment i used 10 damn i felt electric .
Damn, Mand. They sparred you with 10oz and you had 16's. You must've been a lot better than them and the coach was protecting them giving you 16oz. You're right though, once you train with 14 or 16oz heavier gloves and then you put the 10's and 8's on it's brillient. Your hands feel so much faster.
I was best in gym without being arrogant, my footwork weren't great partly cos i wanted to **** people off . They'd love the light footed kids, they'd always say 'your to flat footed' i'd just plod and smash the fleet footed lads around ring. I was a pressure fighter with good fundamentals and very good body punching. I converted to southpaw at age of 12. My dad made me wear the 16oz Slip. He also made me wear leg weights at times as well.. I used to spar men as well at 13, novices etc. Was one night nearly in ring with Lenny Daws. He agreed to moving me around but i dunno why it never happened. Shame he's a lovely boxer and good guy. I used to spar a 16 year old at a gym i moved to, i was 13 but he always had these gloves that looked ****ed. Padding was all over place. They were droopy. Boy did me and him go at it week in week out!.
@Luke- Yep. It can be a bit horses for courses. Depending on the size and weight. But anything below 12 or 14 i generally wouldn't recommend for training and sparring. Everlasts are generally pretty good gloves. BBE's are horrible all round. I think we can be unanimous in that. I don't think i've met anyone who likes them. Which begs the question, why do they get used so much at every level? Anything below 14oz on the bag and i think i would seriously damage my hands.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze-ub9xW64Q[/ame] This is my mate's nephew, 10 years old... in the blue body belt thingy. It's the first fight of his that's on YT, not his best showing but the kid he's in with was better than the last one. He absolutely ruined a 14 year old in a fight a couple of months ago, felt sorry for him being chinned by such a little kid. He looks much better on the bags than he does in the ring though, probably because he's not wrestling and kicking etc. The rules must have been ''no head shots'' :think
That's class, Mand. I knew it, you were the dude to avoid in the gym (especially after seeing THAT pic). There's always that guy that no one wants to spar. lol
:good Tbf to poor sod's, the ring at Rosehill is so small it was a dream for any pressure fighter . TBH though i look back and i've learned more from you and others on here then i did from trainers. I never was taught to cut ring off etc.
Ayes its cools man, i didnt think it was appropriate for here tbh so moved it to the training thread. Anyways, as i was saying i used to use ma old sparring gloves on bags, 16s but i was proper training and conditioned and it felt fine. Now am back am getting frustated at ma speed etc on bags with 16s so am dropping to 10s till ma conditioning and strength comes together again. I hear what ya saying about injuring hands with smaller gloves, am overly fussy about ma wrists being wrapped well. Cheers :good
I used to get kids on ropes and never let up, 'he's hitting me in kidney's'. I'd look and then resume my body assault. This was my old gym, they've moved from there now i believe.. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cZCclUiJYo&feature=player_embedded[/ame] I remember sparring @ Stowe ABC against one of the Cocaran's. The ring no word of a lie was a gym floor and four poles with a rope around it. It was ridiculously big! i had to run to catch him!.
