Yep. Speed/being fast is in the body, quickness is in the mind. Another example. Mel Taylor was faster than Pete Whitaker, but Pete was quicker in the mind.
I think being fast and having superior twitch fibres and reflexes is natural and God given talent, but being quick can be trained and learnt. It's about anticipation, awareness and having quick punch release. It's also a lot to do with your eyes and seeing things quickly. All of which can be taught, trained and improved.
Boxing is one of the few sports in which you can coach a fighter to deal with speed. It's probably the only reason Walcott isn't playing in league 2.
I heard the more active the parents are the more fast twich fibre's the child has, not sure if that's bull but i'm gonna keep active . As for speed, i've seen a lot of lads use weights for shadowboxing. I think speed can be developed but not vastly improved like going from one extreme to other.
A lot of fighters dont throw left (orthodox) uppercuts, Marquez has by far the best imo. I love the way he uses it in combinations. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv7zyil9QwQ[/ame]
Nah, it's bollocks Not saying it would do any harm, but I was always speed and power in any sport I took part in, and my mother is 5'1'' and little more than 100lbs wet through, so..... I think it's a really good option, because the opponent won't see it coming. Marquez isn't the quickest of fighters in terms of handspeed but I'd reckon his connect % is very high. Completely did for Diaz in their first fight.
No worries, glad I could contribute to this epic thread, been lost for hours in here over the past few days. :good Marquez and his punching is a joy to watch, I wish I had more time and footage of his training and Nacho's methods too, fascinating stuff.
yeah now you say that looking at my parents neither were active and i was pretty decent sportsman as a kid. Not overly quick but not slow.
Haha..... I was all power and speed. Very little skill, other than a few tricks I had up my sleeve on the rugby field. Anyone who's ever seen me play football would say that I'm brutal - Leeds United defence level brutal, but shove it on my left peg and the keeper WILL move out of the way. Whether it goes in or not is a different thing entirely. Likewise cricket, I always said to the keeper, what is it today mate? Six or stumped? Usually both :nut
I wouldn't last two minutes in the CL. I'd make sure I got value for my red card, put it that way. I digress.........
speed can be always be improved but improvements are limited by your muscle fibre makeup. You can appear to be faster by being non-telegraphic and having good timing
Some of free kicks tonight were soft, i was watching a Baggio highlight vid and the tackles on him were just savage yet he played on as normal. Tonight keeper got a free kick for getting clattered in 50/50.
