The all things technical thread.

  1. I think Roach is quite clearly on his way out.

As a cornerman/strategist I'm sure he's still right up there, but in terms of ''training'' his men and correcting any mistakes he's struggling.

For me, if Manny had defeated Marquez emphatically he'd have called it a day and Freddie would have gone with him. Khan, Linares and the others pale into insignificance when it comes to their importance to him.

I just think if those guys knew any better they would do better. If that makes sense. My thing is Freddie is one of the best coaches in boxing so why can't he get his fighters to block something like the uppercut, which they ALL seem to be suckers for. It's simple. You turn the shoulder and put your left glove under your chin. You don't stand square on, on the ropes blinding yourself with your guard stuck to your ears. How the heck can elite fighters like that with an awesome trainer get hit with the same shot again and again and again. It baffles me. Really does. The likes of Peterson and Clottey weren't doing anything special to open them up either.

Interesting. I think Roy would make a great trainer. His boxing IQ is off the charts.

If they can't understand Roach, what's bringing in Toney going to do? :D

Yeah always got that impression, Him and Robby are my boys i grew up watching these two run the CM for the Blues. Nice to see them back in tandem trying to salvage our sorry season .

  11. To be honest most fighters are clueless against the uppercut, it's just noticeable more when you consider the calibre of trainer that Roach is.

Though Pacquiao in particular has faced his fair share of good uppercutters. Khan's a different case altogether.

I think that Hopkins and Marquez would make good trainers, though I'm not sure Marquez could sit in a corner, stop young kids and say ''do it this way, dumbass'' the way Nacho does. Such swagger.

The reason i think most top fighters don't make great trainers is one because of obvious things like not having the patience etc. But i think the biggest thing is. Most special fighters if you asked them what they do that makes them special they wouldn't be able to explain it to you. It's weird. Maybe it's because they're so subtle and instinctive.

I'm not even ganna get to my beloved Gooners. What a heartbreaker. :-( Proud of the effort though. I always knew we had a chance of getting close. What with our recent form especially at home. Also remember Milan against Deportivo when they got rolled over in the second leg. Although that was a VERY old AC side.

Btw, I don't blame Mr Newton for going the Turkish route. Turk/Greek women mixed with something else produces serious eye candy. Honestly i've NEVER seen a bad looking Greek/Turkish girl mixed with another nationality.

Yeah i felt you'd win on the night say 2-0 but to be so close must be a kick in nuts espicially when RVP had that sitter.

Yeah  that's a good shout, that bird on Celeb Big Bro other month was a fine looking woman i must say.
