are we taking into consideration that athletes have evolved over the years or not? Some heavyweights used to weigh 185 lbs now many are at 240. Training methods, technique, nutrition, all this has evolved.

Boxing is a sport which requires more skill and toughness than any other major sport. These two factors have not increased over the past half century or so. There were big fighters that weighed 240 and were brutes in the old days as well, and were stomped down by 185 pound fighters.

Guys like Marciano and Dempsey who were sub 200 pounds were such because they had no fat on them. If they had lovehandles like most of the HWs today they'd easily weigh over 200 but be sacrificing stamina, speed, quickness, etc. Don't forget, there's still small fighters beating the giants of today like Byrd, Toney, Jones beating Ruiz etc.

uhhhhhhhh, are you being serious? tyson was incredibly slippery during his peak with superb head/upper body movement complimenting his highly impressive speed. prime tyson was very hard to tag cleanly.

I hear what you're saying, but we are talking about best v best here as its h2h rankings, and I don't think that defence, effective though it was v the opposition Tyson faced, would be enough to protect him when faced with someone who punched as quickly and powerfully as he did, and would take the fight to him.
